Open Combs Gillette vs Merkur (modern)

I know there are OC fans here that have tried both Gillette and Merkur. Which one(s) do you prefer and why?

I have the Muhle R41 (which has the same head as the Merkur OC) and a British Gillette New Long-comb OC two-piece.

The R41 shaves very well, and is very mild (The blade rests on the tines).

The Gillette is a superb shaver; for me, everything about it is just right to give me a superb shave

So for me, the Gillette is the better shaver.

As with all choices in wet-shaving, YMMV, and your presonal preference may be different to mine !

The vintage Gillette oc's felt better balanced and heavier to me.

My Merkur 1904 Classic seems slightly milder than my long tooth New... which for my skin is a good thing.

My only experience with current production open comb razors is with the Merkur 11c. While not a bad razor, I find it rather mild and don't use it very regularly.

I much prefer a few of the vintage Gillette Open Comb razors. The Old Type is my favorite, followed by the Sheraton. As always, YMMV.

Merkur does not appear frequently so hard to make a full comparison of various models..
