    Default Interesting Article

I was trying to find some info on the now discontinued Toms of Maine Honeysuckle shaving cream and came upon this article.

I know that Lush isn't considered the best shaving cream around here, but I was wondering if anyone had any experience w/the "coalface" soap discussed in this article? Sounds like interesting stuff, though expensive.

Before I bought any shaving soap I lathered up with a AOS pure brush a bar of Alkmaar Soap from Lush. It lathered up fairly well, no complaints there, but it left my face a bit dry. Since each soap at Lush is fairly different, they should preform differntly.

I've not tried the coalface soap, but I do use some of their body butters to shave (my face) with: King of Skin is nice, and the Buffy body butter for some exfoliation a couple of times a week.

I'm not thinking of using it as a shaving soap, but as a standard face soap. Since, according to this article, it's supposed to "draw the toxins from your pores" I thought it might be a good face soap.

I picked up some of the coalface soap at the weekend. No complaints so far, but the smell might put some people off - it looks and smells as if you're rubbing melted rubber into your skin. If you like those rubbery licorice candies, then you'll probably enjoy it. I like weird smells so it doesn't bother me... and the smell doesn't linger, anyway.

I know some people might want to try shaving with it. I've just been using it to wash my face, and it doesn't make a huge amount of lather for me.

I have oily 'problem' skin, so I'll keep using this and see what happens.

I picked up a small bar of this over the weekend as well. It's quite expensive IMO ($49.80 per POUND from a Lush retail store), so I bought the smallest sliver possible and am told it should last for about a month of face washing.

I'll report back, but so far it's good. I only use it at night as I've heard it's rather drying, but good for getting stuff out of your skin. Then I use my tradiational Men-U to get my day going.

    So far so good.

Oh yeah, I don't know if people would want to try to shave w/this or not. Mines got small bits of what appear to be real charcoal in it for exfoliation I guess. I don't think those extra bits would be good for a shave.
