It is my understanding that honing will indeed shine over a damascus pattern. The pattern is usually brought out via an acid etch or some such process to highlight the differences in the steel, dark and light, etc. If you hone the damascus, you will remove metal from both kinds of steel, and the pattern welded design will become quite subtle, as both will then just simply look like shiny silver steel.
Yes, the topography runs all the way through, but the aesthetic that we know as damascus is a surface quality treatment to get it to look like that.
One, two! One, two! and through and through...The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
My Vorpal Razors
Ok, yours is also made from Bohler K990 steel. Very interesting.
I like the box yours comes in too. Mine is just mounted on a single sheet of wood with an indentation carved in it for the razor and a little plastic stick that swings over to hold the razor in place. It's got a rustic, Japanese look, but it's not too functional.
Very cool that you found this one for sale through the Classifieds. I paid a ton for mine new, but that was only after searching for a used one for more than year.
Couple of ones I haven't posted yet.

Superbleu let me borrow a Kamisori to try out and I most definitely used both sides of the blade. It would have required to much thinking and awkward angles for me not to.

I thought that was the fun part. Then again, I've never been one to take the easy way. Anyway, I like Jim Rion's answer.
Gents,
This is a very tempting thread.
I am a big fan of Japanese knives.
And as until now, I did not know of these 'kamisori' type of razors (I hope I picked the right word / term out of your excellent posts).
Could some one tell me a bit more about these razors?
They seem much more interesting and inviting to me than straights.
Where does one buy these?
What to look for?
Any info appreciated!
Wim
Have a nice day!
