Got a reminder

I recently went on a business trip, something that I almost never have to do any more.
For the last decade I have been using DE's and straights, mostly Feather AC's.
My last trip was in the late 90's and DE blades were still OK.

I did not want tho have any hassles with airport security, so I dug deep into one of my old tool sets and came up with a 80's something Gillette cartridge shaver and some still sealed blades.
Eiyiyi!, I cant believe what an awful shave those things give. It makes me wonder how I ever used them.
Next time I have to go on a trip that involves flying, I think I may just go with the stubble look.

I don't get it, can't you check in luggage with razor blades? Or did you only bring hand luggage?

You never check your essential toilettries because when they lose your luggage you are screwed. I used pack extra underwear and socks because of this in my hand carry along with toilettries.

You can check luggage with razor blades, but on most airlines, you will now pay extra for each bag. Don't know what airline the OP took, but would you want to pay $50-$100 extra per round trip just to take blades?

I've been mailing my blades ahead last several trips.

Checking bags is a hassle, expensive and to be avoided if at all possible. If you do check your bags you may want to bring "essentials" in your carry on in case of loss, but the razor blades would have to go.

First time I flew after starting DE shaving, I maildnan envelope with a blade in it to myself, c/o the hotel where I was staying. I checked the front desk every day but never got them, even though I sent them a week in advance. I ended up shaving with a freebie from the hotel, a disposable Dorco, which absolutely sucked!

Last time I flew I just picked up some American Personnas from a Walgreens. I was actually pleasantly surprised by the performance...

I don't get the idea of carrying extra clothes etc. I just walk in with literally empty hands - enjoy the travel - and if I get stuck - I just walk out of the airport - go to the nearest Target - and get a pair of underwear and socks.

Sometimes, after getting stuck for a day or two, and getting all stinky and dirty, its almost heavenly to come home and take a nice long shower and then shave. It makes you appreciate the simplest things in life :)

I have been travelling domestic and international very frequently for many many years, and I have never lost anything out of a bag. I have had bags misplaced by the airline twice, but they were returned to me the next day.
Don't live in fear.

3. You'll have extra space for a change of shoes, clothes that don't look like you slept in them and maybe something to relax in in the evening.
4. All the Business Travellers won't be cursing you behind your back because your taking all the bin space with your oversized carry on because you're too cheap to check a bag or too impatient to wait 15 minutes to collect it.

Personally, I think the Airlines have it backwards.

Checked bags should be free, and people should be charged for carry-ons larger than a laptop.

When flying I take a fat handle Tech and a brush that won't bother me too much if it gets "taken". I have several Tech's specifically for this purpose. If I really wanted to take one of my nicer razors and/or brushes I would stick them in my brief case and stick a small box of blades in my checked luggage. If something happens w/the checked bag you can always run to Wally World and pick up some DE blades, provided it's a store that carries them. If they don't, pick up a bag of disposable face hackers.

I always check a bag. With the overhead bin space at a premium it's one less thing to hassle with. I've yet to have someone snatch something out of my luggage (I probably just jinxed myself).

+2. In 35 years of travel I have had luggage lost only once - and that was when I first started traveling. The only thing I carry on is a computer, something to read, and any meds I need. Everything else is packed.

(Seriously, I don't mind reverting to carts every now and then. There are other things to enjoy when you're traveling.)
