    Default Aftershave/Balm/Milk/Moisturizer etc

    Hi There,

This is my first post and I am 2 weeks into DE shaving.

I decided to dive right in and bought a Badger Brush, Lemon Shaving Cream, Lemon Pre-Shave Oil and Lemon After Shave Balm from The Art of Shaving.

I Also bought the Merkur Futur and a sample pack of Merkur, Dorco and Feather. First shave went pretty good with feather blade, second shave was horrible! (very bad razor burn).

I am confused as to all the products on the market, aftershave, balm, milk, astringent etc.

I have an oily forehead and nose, but a very dry face and neck...I also seem to get some razor burn on my neck and occasionally ingrown hairs. I dont really want to buy aftershave, balm, milk for mostiurizing, and somthing for ingrown hairs and razor burn. Is there sort of an all in one? Or a few products you would recommend? I need a good moisturizer and a good product for razor burn and ingrown hairs.

    Your help would be appreciated!

You probably don't really need to buy another balm, unless you just want to. Most likely, the problem is from either using too much pressure (VERY easy to do with a Futur), blade angle or both.

Here's a great demonstration of proper and improper blade angle.

    Good luck! And welcome!

There's no 'official' definitions of these terms, but in general....

Splashes are liquid, and mostly alcohol-based.
Balms are creamy, and tend to have more healing ingredients.
Milks are somewhere in the middle.

Which type and which specific brand you use is pretty up to you, trial and error will eventually help you settle on which ones work best. Anyways, razor burn and ingrown hairs are caused by bad technique, so you'd be best served to solve those problems at the source rather than try compensate by adding more products to your routine.
    Just call me Chris.

The AoS ASB is very good. You really should not need anything else as a moisturizer or for razor burn. I have no experience with ingrown hairs, so can't comment on that one.

The blade angle suggestion in an earlier post is spot-on.
