    Default What Makes Shaving Fun

So here's the deal: we all know we have to remove facial hair, and for years, a lot of us went the "efficient" route--goop out of a can and the latest style of cartridge razor. it did the job, more or less efficiently, but it sure as heck wasn't fun. It was more like a necessary chore.
Then along came wet-shaving. a host of soaps, DE razors, brushes, acquisition syndrome of one sort or another, and along the way we discovered that shaving could be fun. Sometimes, when we're in the zone, it's more than fun--it's a positively luxurious experience--we float on clouds of scented soaps and creams, the razor glides across our skin more or less of its own accord, we experience a bit of sadness when the shave comes to an end, and we feel radiant throughout the remainder of the day.
So--I set out to find out what makes shaving fun. I came to a startling conclusion. Getting the best shave doesn't necessarily put you in shaving nirvana, and isn't necessarily fun. Here's what I discovered: Method shaving gives you a spectacular shave. By the time I get through following all of CAR's instructions my face is absolutely smooth. Nothing else comes close. But--and here's the thing--it isn't fun. Maybe it's because the scents aren't there, but even when we use an unscented product, it can be fun. Method shaving gives you a fabulous lather, the cutting balm really does what it says it will, and the a/s conditioner is unbeatable, but--I say it again--it's not fun.
When I use Mama Bear's Rosemary and Mint, I'm floating on clouds of ecstasy. QED's Wild Rose (Tim deserves a medal for that one) is absolutely heavenly. Even Proraso puts me in a mood. There are some days when I wake up and say: "Today will be a method shaving day." I know I'll get a great shave, but it won't be fun.
Now I know that YMMV, but I'd be interested in hearing from other folks on the forum about their take on this and why you think this is the case. (if indeed it is the case.) Is there anyone who achieves shaving nirvana with method shaving, or is this just my own quirkiness manifesting itself?

I never tried method shaving and your post has made me even less inclined to do so. I want to keep having fun!

Let me get this right, Eric. Are you saying that, "There is a madness to your method?" Makes no scents to me!

Seriously, I look forward to choosing the "Flavor of the Day", using whichever one of my B&B brushes is in my every other day rotation. It's aromatherapy at its finest!

No method shaving. Variety is the spice of life. One event of the day that you can make enjoyable. Pick your pleasure.
