Default AS question for my brother wet shavers

OK, I've read through a lot of material on the boards and I have to ask the question: What AS are you turning to as the weather gets colder?

I am currently using the Arlington milk from Harris. It's a fine scent, and I really enjoy the feel. I have also been flirting with going to a menthol AS (Proraso or Speick). As I read through comments, however, I notice a lot of you are moving away from menthols as the weather cools. Where do you go then?

Also, are AS splashes better than balms? I have been using a milk, but have traditionally opted for balms, because I felt they moisturized better. Am I off base here, and should I try a splash?

I stopped using splashes when I started using Japanese Aftershaves...

It doesn't need to be a Japanese Aftershave splash. Try one, there are quite a lot to choose from and you must have something locally. Find something you like scent-wise. If you like the splash vs the balm will depends on your skin. It leaves me with a dry skin where a balm leave me with a greasy skin. I prefer dry and it's not too dry.

For winter, try to find something without Menthol, mint and stuff that can cool you.

For winter, I have Clubman, Old Spice, Master Bay Rum, and Avon Wild Country on tap.

I almost picked up some Clubman at the local Walgreen's last night. I need to give it a try but am running out of room in my medicine cabinet.

I think that it all depends on your skin and your personal preferences. For the most part, I only use splashes. The only time I use a balm is when I get one for a present and don't want to make it look like I don't appreciate it. I'm perfectly happy like that. On the other hand, if you like balms or milks, use them. There's no school solution to this one.

I'll have to be honest and say I'm still using my SCS Lime aftershave splash even though it is heading towards winter. I love limes and I use it no matter what. I also like menthol in the winter, there's something super refreshing about that chilly blast. However, I do also use the generic Old Spice (Rite-Aid's Vi-Jon made stuff) and my P&G Old Spice (which I added some of the Rite Aid stuff to).

I'm not sure I have a 'winter' or 'summer scent', usually, I wear what I'm in the mood for.

Mama Bear Winter AS in Masculine Musk and Proraso cream AS is also shockingly good for the bargain price. The only draw back being it hardly the near lack of scent.

For me summer winter dictates not the scent but how much moisturizing I need out of my aftershave. During the summer I can get away with using Pinaud products but during the winter it's balms and higher-quality splashes (like SCS or TSD).

I use 'em all, year 'round.

If my skin is dry I may use a balm as well as my splash.

    ...but I love the burn.

Alt Innsbruck, Pitralon and DR Harris Marlborough are more frequent in the rotation during fall / winter.
