I had my first shave today using my new deluxe big boy and wm german wilkinson blade....this is the best combo I have ever used,the closest for sure and in the top 3 for smoothness...no drag or scrape,no problems under the nose or jawline...the big boy replaces my ej chatsworth barleycorn as my finest razor,even though the gillette antique is a tad lighter,it gets closer ....open comb ? precision head design ? I don't know,but it is superior in every way...the wilky was as good as any blade I can remember,and I have used 20-30 different kinds in the past half century...the big boy is a solid investment,and the german blades are a real honest bargain..

I'm finding that my Merkur 1904 and a wilky are an excellent combination. I tried a frankenrazor. I took the head from a Gillette Travel Tech and the handle from a Merkur #25 and shaved with that just to test the wilky. I found the shaves to be fine but the Tech head was a very mild shaver. Switched back to the 1904.
