Default A request for TimmyBoston (or any gin drinker)

I'd like to see a review of the new Tanqueray Rangpur. I tried it and like it but I wouldn't feel comfortable writing a review.

    Please?

As a gin drinker converted from vodka , I be interested also. Can you compare it to Tanquray 10? After a quick search it sounds very interesting, but is it too sweet?

IMHO, it doesn't compare to Tanqueray 10; it's a different drink. It is light on the juniper and heavy on the rangpur and is sweeter than Tanqueray 10 and regular Tanqueray. I like my martinis extra-dry (I can hear the purists slapping their foreheads now) and the Rangpur martini didn't do it for me.

I then made a gin & tonic. This is where this gin shines. It was amazing. BEST GIN & TONIC EVER.

In other news, Plymouth gin has changed their bottles. I am unsure if I like the new bottle or not.

When I make a G&T, I eyeball it. I'd say 1/4-1/3 gin, the rest tonic.

I have Bombay and Sapphire. Also have Hendricks, Gordons, Tanq, Tanq 10, Plymouth, and one or two others.

Pffft! Sapphire is to gin as Coors light is to beer. Seriously, it's not really objectionable gin, but it's pretty damn light!

    +1 I can't stand Sapphire.

I am a big fan of Tanqueray and Tanq 10, but unfortunately I've never had the one you mentioned, so I'm unable to write a review.

    Ditto.

But if I'm going to criticize BS (), I suppose I should offer alternatives. I like my gins big and ginny; in BS's price range, I like Beefeater best. In the mid-$20s, I like Junipero and Cascade Gin. When I'm feeling flush, I'll indulge myself with my absolute favorite gin: Old Raj.

    + 1

I'll admit I'm a bit of a Tanq fan, but Sapphire is by far the most horrible stuff I have ever had. I'll take Gordon's over Bombay Sapphire and day of the week.

Okay Rob. Look what you started now! As a recent gin convert(don't really know if that is appropriate, I never really drank any white spirits much before)I have a bottle of...Blue Sapphire. Don't really know what to say about it. I made some gin and tonics with it last summer. Well, it tasted like a gin and tonic. New years eve 2005I had a numer of g&t's made from Tangueray. Like em just fine but really can't tell you what the difference was between that and the B.S. To be honest, I really need a good gin education. When you guys say you like your gins big or heavier, I ASSume you mean with the botanicals? It took me a good long while to get the fact that vodka and gin are basically the same product(grain neutral spirit) with different adjuncts added for flavouring. Am I on the right track here? I like the herbal nature of gin but can usually do without vodka. It's lifeless, which I guess is the point. It's to be the carrier for whatever flavours you use in the mixer. I saw Matt mentiond Gordon's and though I noticed it is one of the lower priced gins, it has a good following from what little gin prospecting I did on the web. Thanks guys.

    Regards, Todd

I got converted to the Gin and Tonic about two years ago due to a good friend that is a Tanq die hard. I must say that it is the gold standard to which I compare other gins. Beef Eater and Bombay dont do it for me as I find them alil to light. Tanq 10 is good but its quite light on the Juniper and heavy on the citrus for my taste. It does make a good martini though. Not that I drink them often. I like a Tanq and Tonic made the old fashioned way with a heavy slice of fresh lime. Muddled into a glass. Fill with ice and put 1/3 Tanq with a top off of tonic. The lime slice for garnish. And if you would like something alil diff try a French 75. I like a semi-sweet like an asti for those. Just me though...

I have been trying to find Old Raj for a long time but the ABC stores here don't carry it. :(

I'm going to buck the trend here...

I like both Bombay BS and Tanq (10), depending on my mood. I have tried the Junipero, I think there could be a bit more juniper in it
