    Default Cold Water Shaving

Yesterday, I was in a rush trying to make it in a timely manner to a job interview. The shower being occupied, I was forced to shave before showering with almost no time to properly prepare my beard. Also, because SWMBO was using the shower and I did not want to steal all the hot water, I was forced to shave with only cold water. Although I was initially very nervous to be shaving in a manner against my normal routine before a job interview, after I finished shaving I was pleasantly surprised with the results.

Using cold water seems to keep the stubble coarse and wiry allowing a sharp blade, such as a feather, to cut right through the stubble. Although this does not feel as luxurious and relaxing as a well-prepared hot lather shave, it seems to do the trick.

Has anyone else here gone against the conventional wisdom and shaved using cold water?

Oh yes. I heart cold water shaving. This ( http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=168069 ) is probably the most recent in depth discussion of cold water shaving.

Shaving with cold water has the same effect on me as a cold shower; it is uncomfortable and only temporarily resolves the initial problem for which it was intended.

I found it to be a worthwhile endevour. Personally, I didn't get better shaves than my traditional warm/hot water shave but it certainly wasn't worse. There is some reasoning why it may work well for some, as outlined by some in the link that M80 provided.
