Default And yet another Newb checking in....

Hi all.....I found this group while doing some surfing after a post on a pipe smoking forum piqued my interest in wetshaving. I have gotten two shaves in with a DE, and I am really pleased with the results thus far.

    My equipment to date is:

    A new Weishi razor
    Blade sampler pack from letterk
Van Der Hagen brush and soap because my Target has no Poraso :(

On the way to me is:
Lime, Patchouli & lavender, Sandalwood & Vanilla soaps,& Alum bar w/rack from Mama Bear
    This Muhle-Pinsel brush http://www.pipesforless.com/mushbr18d.html

This should keep me busy for a while Though I am eying up a moss scuttle

I work construction...so I shower and do my shaving in the afternoon when I get home from work. Gives me plenty of time for a nice relaxing shave. I also smoke a pipe, roast my own coffee beans, brew beer, and enjoy my motorcycle! So the wetshaving really appeals to me...I love gadgets!

I am using the Mekur blade first, and have had two decent shaves with it. No nicks(knock on wood) and no ingrown hairs!!! I was using a M3 and one of those 5 blade jobbers....really did not like shaving with that one at all!! Too many ingrown hairs.

Thanks for all the help I've already gotten!!

    Scott

Man, do you ever fit in at this place.

It sounds like you're doing well; soon you'll be refining your kit, doing all the aftershave treatments, too.

If you haven't done so already, I recommend you read Leisureguy's shave blog, and view the shaving videos that Mantic posted on YouTube on the net. They really are a 'must do' for the new wetshaver. Also, Kyle has posted a couple of articles that are 'stickied' at the top of this forum and are well worth a read.

    Welcome Scott,

As a fellow newbie myself I can tell you the sampler pack is the way to go. Just opened the swedish Gillettes today and they are the best yet. Also brewed a batch of British Bitter this weekend.

P.S. That Weishi razor is the spitting image of an SS(to me anyway.)

    Cheers,

    Nate

    Welcome, Scott!

I'm sure that your other hobbies won't mind being put on the back burner for a while!

How do you define Western New York? Is that everything West of Syracuse, and North of the Southern Tier?

    See you around the board!

I grew up in the Finger Lakes area, and lived in the Greater Rochester area for quite a few years. I spent a good deal of time on Canandaigua Lake, and on Lake Ontario/Irondequoit Bay, sailboarding.

Naples creek was an extremely popular place on opening day of trout season. Ever been there?

    How uncanny,

I also brew my own beer, smoke a pipe occasionally and fly fish! Is interesting to note the similarities in interests here!!

    Hey, robs!

Dr Konstantine Franks wines are one of the few NY State wines that I really enjoyed! I'll be back in the Finger Lakes in a few months. I think that I may be able to twist the arm of a family member to make a trip there!

Chop-Chop, never been to naples creek...but I'll look it up. Might be a good reason for a trip! We are in the process of moving to New England, so I better try to get out fishing soon. (and NO, I wont be a Sox or Patriots fan!)

Dr. Franks has a great Pinot Noir as well!
