witch hazel question

I am totaly new to wet shaving all together ( just in the reading stage now i would say, not actualy shaved with a de yet ) I see many on this board use witch hazel , I have some here from walmart that we bought a while back ,I would like to add some scent to it can you just mix in a few teaspoons of ivy club( went and bought some after reading all the praises for it ) or some other brand of after shave , or would this be a bad idea ? My method is to use it straight. I shave and after washing lather off, I apply the witch hazel. Doesn't smell the greatest but you get accustomed it. It does refresh. I then brush my teeth. Afterwards, I apply a/s. The witch hazel aroma does not last for long.

I spray it on my face after shaving and rinsing.
