Default Cleaning Gillette Black Handle... Special concerns?

I've given the "How to clean your vintage razor" B&B-Confidential a pretty good read, but I'm not finding anything on cleaning the black handled beauties of the sixties and seventies.

Any special concerns surrounding the handle? (to boil or not to boil, for instance).

What care should be taken to avoid removing the paint on the adjustment knob?

Don't know about the paint, but defiantly don't boil it! Let it soak in some scrubbing bubbles for a while.

Well... I learned one thing. Don't use straight simple-green and then tooth-brush it. So long nicely-painted numbers. Sigh.

Also, the nice easy click-click-click of the adjustment knob seems to have been replaced by a hard-turning clack-clack-crunch. Odd.
