Default Just had a Shave with a SuperSpeed

.. And I have to say, I had problems finding the correct angle :/ IMO the blade exposure was very little, compared to my 11C and Futur. And When I first found the angle, I got a bad shave... Couldn't even go ATG at all. Had a fresh blade in it and all...

I'll wait a couple of days before trying it again, and if it still shaves as bad as it did today I'll think about selling it.

Anyone have any advices on the SS? Or is it just me that finds it abit difficult to find the correct angle?
It was like, when I tried to shave WTG, I couldn't feel/hear it if I'd cut any hairs. So I had to adjust the angle, increase it a bit, and suddenly it shaved IMO too aggressive for me. Atleast when I went ATG.
So the real problem was finding the WTG angle!

My 11C felt oh so right in my hands, and so easy to find the correct angle! If you haven't tried it, be sure to do so! Especially noobs who want to try an open comb!

I'm actually thinking of using my 11C WTG and XTG, and the Futur dialed down to 1 on my ATG pass on my neck. Maybe it's a bad idea to switch razors midshave?

EDIT: And yeah, btw. This was the first time I have shaved two days in a row. Todays shave was just for the joy of it, and it wasn't any joy at all! :/ Maybe I should go back to my "shave every third day" routine.

i really enjoyed the superspeed flare tip regular i had and found it to give great comfortable shaves the first time i used it. thinking it was a good beginners razor, i gave it to my father (mach 3 user) and brother (merkur user) to use and they both found it aggressive and got razor burn. go figure...

I like the superspeed. I have a black handled SS and a Brit Rocket Flare Tip. I don't find them aggressive depending on what blade I use. If I use a Wilkinson Sword blade for example, I can go WTG, XTG and ATG without any issues. With a Feather or Astra SP, I can only handle WTG and XTG without blood. The ATG pass tears me up.

I have found that for my skin and beard the SS gives very good shaves in all passes. I have found that certain razors seem to perform better with certain blades for my beard.

I acquired a blue tipped SS, and I love it. It is quite mild, so it's perfect for my legs and underarms. Some of the other razors that I own tend to chew up the legs and make my underarms burn. So personally I find that it's the right combination for those things. I do love the Gillette adjustable for the face, though.

Do you have a different brand of blade you could try in it? Sometimes that makes a lot of difference. I love my late 40s super speed, but it could be that the merkurs just work better for you.

Gillette super platinum is my go to blade. Performs as the feather, but without the irritation!

I didn't like the SS I had and gave it to my brother.

To me, the head was kinda bulky and hard to maneuver under my nose, and around my chin. I prefer a Tech and it coupled with a Feather is my favorite.

First---you need to start shaving every day and toughen up that mug----remember--no pressure--multiple passes

I get perfectly acceptable shaves with my SS and Walmart Personna's---and I'm pretty picky.

Best way to use it --is to get audible feedback--that peeling the onion sound---love it.

I get pretty good shaves with my 50's SS and a Red IP blade. However I did have a little bit of a rough one the other day, not sure if it was poor lather or if I shaved one too many times with the blade, maybe a little of both.

I have to agree with you here. I noticed that once I started to turn the water off I could actually "hear" what was going on between blade and beard and it improved my shaves dramatically. Good tip!

    Exclamation

The super speed was made to accommodate the majority of shavers , not all shavers .

If you do not get the shave you want stop listening to others boast about the super speed and look else ware .

I am not a safety razor collector ------ I am a DE razor shaver .

Two different types of people two different objectives .

You have to use a razor for at least full week before you really figure out the optimal angles.

All I can speak to is my own experience and my '55 SS gives me pretty good shaves. I use Red IP and have a medium-light beard.

To me it sounds like you just have to find the angles that work for you. ATG can be tricky with any razor and having lackluster wtg and xtg passes will probably make it impossible to have a good atg pass. Switching back and forth between very different razors will probably just give you bad shaves with both. The effort may not be worth it since you already get good shaves, but with time you probably would be able to get good shaves from an ss.

I've mostly used gillettes and derbys with my ss with pretty good results. I didn't find feathers to work as well with that razor.

Like somebody said earlier, practice and experimenting with different products is the best way to solve these types of problems.
