My wife thinks AV Musk smells like Ambercrombie & Fitch

My wife was out the other day and I shaved while she was gone. TOBS Rose shaving cream and I finished with some AV Musk. She ended up coming home about 5 minutes after I finished shaving, and she had this horrified look on her face...she said it smelled like an A & F/Hollister, and not in a good way. I knew it couldn't have been the Rose since she likes that smell, so I had her smell the AV Musk. She absolutely flipped out and told me to throw it away.

On the plus side, now the Clubman she also hates smells good in comparison.

Any ideas on how I can win her over?

My wife likes AV Musk (used it today) and Clubman, but hates Master Bay Rum, which is one of my favorites. I wear it on days I won't be around her. She has not come around to liking any of the scents she previously didn't like. She's pretty open-minded about most, fortunately.

Scents I have not liked initially have not improved with age. I don't know if that part of the brain is open to negotiation. I wasn't thrilled with Bay Rum initially. It was so new to me that I didn't know what to think about it. Grew on me quickly.

Yes, throw out the AV Musk. You're not going to convince here to like a scent she doesn't like. If you want a happy marriage, concede this small thing and pick more noble issue to fight over. In the meantime, you my be able to leverage your "good will" in dumping the AV Musk to get some other goodies you've been eyeballing.

Tough call. Did your wife really react that strongly, or is this just internet hyperbole? The reason I ask is that I see lots of post like this--my wife wants me to throw it out, my wife can't stand to be in the same room with me, etc. I think that the foundation of a good marriage is to respect your partner's interests and choices and to be supportive of what they're doing. I would never think to critique my wife's choice in shoes or lipstick. I tell her that she looks nice. Besides, do I really know anything about all that? If I'm concerned about her taste in feminine accessories matching mine, I'm already in a bad place.

If my wife said something like that to me, I'd ask her what's the deal? I'm starting to get into this whole wetshaving thing--why would you have to go and say something like that to me? If she said that because you asked her, that's a different story. The easiest thing to do from now on is don't ask. Wear what you like. Otherwise, the best thing is to just send her to the store and have her get whatever she wants you to wear.

I hear you...my wife pretty much hates anything that has a strong smell particularly the splashes...the only thing she likes the smell of is my Proraso asb and my Nivea sensitive asb...little does she know I have some Brut on the way.

My suggestion is to either keep using it in hopes that you can break her down to a point where she concedes or take her out with you to get some scents you can both agree on.

Smelling an AS right out of the bottle, or right after you put it on....well, that was the worst possible time for her to come in! The AV Musk is pretty potent on me, but I like it, and it does mellow down. Personally, nothing comes out of my rotation unless I take it out, but by the same token, I don't tell SWMBO what to wear either. YMMV.
