I used two small samples of this soap some time ago (normal and unscented) from a friend. As people said, is probably one of the best vegetable soaps around: really, really easy to lather, last for ages and have good properties... but unfortunately I didn't like the scent. For me is like I'm smelling an old outdated french blue cheese, hehe. And is expensive...

Probably won't buy until they decide to use another scent... and what a mess the suposed "unscented" version: instead of "pure" soap scent like Valobra stick it smells even worse than normal version... a shame

    Cheers!
Please, excuse my written English, I'm Spanish and still learning... ;-)

Along with Cella and Proraso, it is now my favorite soap. I love the scent, and it is BY FAR the easiest soap to lather. 10-20 swirls with my Simpson Colonel Manchurian and it's off to the races! It amazes me how little product is needed to get a fantastic, slick lather.

Let's just say that this is the only soap my SWMBO said "Keep it in the bathroom, I like the smell". Now that is a winner. I definitely pickup Lavender and Rosemary and other herbal scent. The smell is medicinal in a good way...I love it. It will always be in my rotation.
Looking for a good to excellent condition Lady Gillette for my SWMBO, if you have one PM me please

I got a sample from Garry and my SWMBO said the same thing. She doesn't really like any of my traditional soaps (Tabac, MWF, etc), but she loves this stuff. She asked me if it was an Aveda product because of the scent. I told her it cost about the same as their products.

Unfortunately, the remainder my sample has been jacked by a friend I got hooked on wet shaving. I let him pick any 3 soaps out of my den and of course this was one of them. But it worked out ok because he is hooked on wet shaving and he went in on an order of a couple jars with me.

Honestly, I never thought I could justify spending this kinda $$$ on soft goods when stuff like RazoRock is so damn good and cheap, but the price isn't really that out of line when you consider how much you get. I have spent way more on a night out for dinner or even just a bottle of wine and those didn't last nearly as long as this will. I can also appreciate the artisan/small business quality and dedication. And, oh yeah, this stuff is simply one of THE BEST out there in every way!

P.S. Thank you Marco for your great write up!

*Edit: Anybody else who has tried this and Mystic Water Lavender and found the scent of the two kinda similar? Not brothers, but maybe cousins?

i haven't smelled the MW Lavender, but find the Valobra Lavanda soft soap smells very similar and actually performs and lathers nearly as easily.

Sweet I was planning on ordering a few new additions from Joseph at italianbarber when the new RazoRock stuff comes out so maybe I will have to throw that in the cart.....get some free shipping. Maybe I will see how many different things I can get for $60 from him in contrast to the one tub of MdC

he doesn't stock the LAVANDA scent. it was a LTD EDITION and i think it's all gone from 1000 & 1 Seife

he does stock the others, but i have not tried those.

you can try to compare soaps and creams to MdC, but until you try it, you will never truly know.

i'd say the closest RR product to MdC is King Louis.

How does this compare with the slickness of Proraso green? I love the reformulated Proraso green and so far, it's the only soap I own which has been mentioned alongside the MDC.
    Thanks,

Just as slick for me. I need to use a bit more Proraso, but the end result is very similar.

A while back a very generous member, TOB9595, sent me a sample of MDC to try. The new jar I ordered arrived today

Just received my shipment, six days to Hawaii, yes Hawaii, fantastic service, I even received four complementary squares of soap. I think its the finest shaving soap made, slick, excellent cushion ease of lathering, and a clean finish. I ordered an extra tub for my Father, he will have quite a starter kit along with a Rudy Vey brush, Ikon razor and a gross of Super Iridiums.

Six days from France to Queens NYC! Fantastic scent to the soap (sort of like a more refined Speick scent).

I have a some through a generous member and I must say this stuff is amazing. Costs aside, this soap is now in my top three rotation. Never has soap gone to head of the class so quickly. For those of you contemplating purchase of
this soap@ $60 don't hesitate as this will easily last you over a year if used exclusively and in a rotation? Brucered has an awesome video of this and how little is needed to produce a rich lather. Thank you B&B member!
    Cheers!

I'll agree that I'm impressed. I have to use it a bit more to have an objective opinion. The scent is good, it reminds me (favorably) of an apothecary for some reason.

Now that free hand/bath soap sample, on the other hand, made me sneeze for 30 minutes after taking a big whif.

By now, any curious person will understand that this is an excellent soap, but that scent is the big issue. I went through two jars of "unscented" before giving up. For a while, I was mixing it with Vitos Red, just to dilute the heavy "wet dog" odor. Its a shame, really.
