    Default Have to shave everyday?

I've been slightly busy lately and managed to skip a couple of days shaving in the last 2 weeks or so.

    It was awful!

Not only because I missed the shaving ritual, but my neck was so irritated and I broke out in bumps and a rash on my lower neck the day after I missed a shave.
I wanted to know if anyone else has the same problem as this, or if its just me and I happened to have a bad shave ... twice ... before skipping a day.

Maybe because I used to have a beard for so long, my face hasn't got used to the stubble the day after yet?

    Anyway ...
Will be carrying a shave kit in the car now incase I cannot make it home for a shave again

Don't have this problem, I always have one day a week when I don't shave, think its good for my skin to recover, then when I shave next, no problems, have you a heavy beard growth, which if you don't shave one day, will give you a rough shave on day two?

Its only in the "fold" of my neck (for lack of a better term) and below the corners of my mouth (to the sides of my chin).

Maybe they are overly sensitive areas? and the beard growth is in odd directions in all these areas, so shaving WTG takes some thinking usually.

Beard growth is moderate (?) if I would guess.

It has also been quite hot here the last 2 weeks or so, so sweating/heat may have contributed to the rash/bumps...

If I understand the problem correctly, then I kinda have this problem too. The most comfortable thing for me is to do a 1-1.5 pass shave WTG every single day. It takes a couple of days to get the stubble down to managable levels, but once I get it it doesn't take any upkeep and doesn't irritate my skin at all.

Sounds like you gave yourself just enough irritation for it to not show right away, but as scratchy hairs started pushing through the skin they exacerbated the problem.

You might need to spend more time on your prep when the whiskers are longer...

I don't have this problem either. I wonder if it has anything to do with the pre or post shave treatment when you do shave? I know that if I don't use a balm after I shave, I tend to get a rash.

well ... happy to report that after a few mild 2 pass shaves, the irritation has removed itself from my face and its back to usual shave routine today it seems.

I think it may be that the irritation was indeed caused by a harsh shave and merely exacerbated by the longer stubble scratching in the area as Go West Young Man hinted to.

    Thanks for the help.

That's odd...most guys report that having a few days of stubble to "harvest" actually gives a better shave. +1 on the more-prep thing--try a full three minutes of Kyle's prep, just to be on the safe side.

Will give a longer prep a try, also, face lathering = excellent ... maybe its the extra exfoliation. Interestingly, the rest of my face loves a couple days growth to be 'harvested' ... just those areas really dont.

It has been just the opposite for me (and I am a newbie to this wet shave stuff). With my old electric razor I would get irritation if I went running or did outdoor activity that caused a lot of sweating ... especially around the neck.

I fully expected the same or more irritation with wet shaving because the shave is so much closer. Not the case! When I run during lunch hour ... no irritation. Sit in the sauna after ... then shower and a little after shave balm ... and all is well.

If it's just a couple of areas, are you sure you've got your beard properly mapped? I'm going through something similar myself, and one piece of advice that keeps coming up is to look for small areas where the grain changes...often, those are the ones that get crazy irritated, since you're accidentally going ATG too early there.
