    Default Ireland

Going to be in Ireland for nine days in November, any suggestions on what to buy, where to go and what to do on my time off.

I'm told you've got to have a Guinness in an authentic Irish pub. I'd also suggest a bottle of Bushmills green label but I can't think of any shave related items that Ireland is the best place to buy.

While there may not be much (any?) Ireland specific shave gear, you will have access to a good many general UK products. Palmolive shave cream for example. Also check out the UK version of Brylcreem - I like it's lemon scent and thicker consistency much better than the US version.

The Dunnes store I checked out also carried Wright's Coal Tar Soap. Give it a whiff... You'll either love it, or recoil in terror.

    Default Non-retail suggestion...

If you're in Dublin on a Saturday, visit St. Michan's church & do the vault tour. Highly recommended, and somewhat 'undiscovered' as yet.

+1 on the Guinness in an Irish pub.

Having my first sip of Guinness in a small pub in Dublin ranks as one of those memories that will contribute to the smile on my deathbed.

If your into pipes you might want to check out Peterson's, I'd also see if I could work in a distillery tour or three while I was there. A friend of mine went not too long ago and did a tour of Guinness brewery and enjoyed it.

+2 on the Guinness nothing like the real thing. Once on a trip to Egypt I was stranded in Shannon and drowned my good fortune (I mean sorrows) in the pub while the replacement plane was coming in from the states.

Who is Barber-eile? I am going to be looking for the Brylcreem and Guinness is on my list for sure. I will consider all these suggestions and thanks for the info.

Straight Razor shave in the Waldorf Barber, 13 Westmoreland Street, Dubin 2.
Open since 1929 and not much changed, still done the old fashioned way.

Then just around the corner for the Best pint of Guinness in Dublin
in Mulligans on Poolbeg street, Dublin 2

Then on to for a tour of the Old Jameson distillery, sample some of Middleton very rare, IMHO the very best whiskey/whisky that has been bottled, to finish off a perfect day

How about going to the Martello Tower in Sandycove and shaving there?

Too bad my wool uniform is so heavy I could take it and shave in period costume.

If you have time, do visit the west coast, particularly the Irish speaking areas in Conamara. The Cliffs of Moher and the Aran Islands are great.

Go to Dublin, get in a Taxi, ask them to take you to the Temple Bar District. The rest will take care of itself. :)

Go for a shave in the Waldorf as mentioned above.
Visit the Guinness storehouse for the views in the gravity bar on top and probably the best Guinness in Dublin !!
If you're headin to Galway at any point send me a message because this Wed I'm moving from
    Dublin to Galway.
I'm writing this on my phone but I'll write more suggestions to you once I'm in Galway. I'm just uber busy right now.

I love Galway! Been several times as I go for the music. I play squeezebox myself and can get to join in the sessions. I've found that the Dublin pubs hire bands and you can't get to play but they still have lots of proper sessions in the Galway area. Usually free Guinness for musos too!

No idea on shaving in the area though.

+1 on this. The Cliffs of Moher are cool, as well as the Ailwee Caves. Then head south of Shannon to the Dingle Peninsula. Beautiful country on the west coast, and the people are great, very friendly.
