Personna Injector questions

Does anyone have any experience w/the type of Personna Injectors shown in Suzukis ad, or the same models but w/the adjustable dial? How do they shave (are they aggressive/nonaggressive, well balanced, etc), and what's a decent price to pay for them?

I've recently discovered injectors, thanks to ClockworkOrange sending me an old bakelite model. But I've heard the older ones are on the aggressive side. So far the old bakelites working great, but I've got a couple of spots around my chin that are VERY easily irritated (even my HD gives me problems). So I was wondering if these newer models might work any better.

thanks

I use both Schick injectors and a PAL adjustable stainless steel injector razor.

Both the PAL and Personna stainless steel injectors were manufactured by American Safety Razor, and are pretty much identical (save for the adjustment dial, which I have yet to see on a Personna). Curiously, the PAL/Personna stainless steel was designed by Henry Dreyfuss and Associates. Dreyfuss was responsible for the design of the Big Ben alram clock, the Princess and Trimline telephones, and other notable items.

I like the PAL because of its long handle, its heft, and its design -- I find it a very good looking razor, and it's much heavier than just about any Schick injector.

I get wonderful shaves from the PAL. But you do need to be careful -- injectors are close enough in head design to "post-DE" razors that one is tempted to try to use it just like a Trac II, etc. You can't. Or rather, if you do, the injector will bite you. So, lighten up on the pressure and take your time, and you'll be rewarded with wonderful, close shaves.

I have no experience with the PAL "Inject-O-Matic" injectors that preceded the stainless steel models, so I can't help you there, I'm afraid.

Hope this helps. -- Joe

Here are some SMF threads on the PAL/Personna injectors and differences between them and the Schick injectors:

Several of these forum members recommend using the same technique with a PAL/Personna injector as one would use with a GEM single-edge razor: keeping the razor head flat against the face and using minimal pressure.

I don't believe I (consciously) shave with my PAL injector using any different technique than I use with my Schick injectors (and I don't use the GEM technique with my Schicks). Then again, I keep the dial on my PAL injector set on "Lo," so I'm using the least aggressive setting.

I'm seeing PAL/Personna injectors sell in the $20 to $25 range. -- Joe
