Hair styling advice needed...

Hello, I know this is difficult for me to describe but I shave short(ish) hair but quite thick & grows pretty fast(I have it cut every 3 weeks). Short at back & sides, short as poss on top & thinned out so I have a choppy look/spikey effect.

I experiment applying products to pretty damp hair & sometimes to towel dried hair. I like products to be stong to spike up/choppy effect on top.

Wax tends to weigh my hair down & has a "tacky" feeling which isnt nice.
Gels arent bad but dont seem to be stong enough to last all day.

I know products around world vary, but if anyone can recommend something generally or a brand or a particular product Id appreciate that or any other advice perhaps.

I use a paste by American Crew. i use it in clean dry hair. it looks natural, doesn't feel crusty like gel gets once dry or sticky like a pomade and i can rearrange my hair all the time if i so desire. the wax isn't bad, but i prefer paste.

I'd also recommend a paste. It'll give a matt finish though just so you know. Bed Head by Tigi is nice. Smells amazing, is a little pricey but a little goes a long way. I'm not sure it'd give you enough hold though. Maybe also try a pommade like Sweet Georgia Browns.

Also, apply a small amount of product going from your crown outward. It really seems to disperse the product better.
