Talking I need some Simpson Help

My wife...remember her, the "you need another brush like the Cat needs more fur" and the "Eagle grabber", has made a unbelievable offer

When I finish my last treatment.... she ("you only need 1 brush") person wants to buy me another Simpson Brush

My choice.... My only Simpson is the Eagle ( which I just weedled back) and have no idea what to get.....

So guys (and gals)....tell me what I should have for the celebration

That's easy. Another Eagle in Best.

Honestly, branch out. I would go with the Harvard range ( I wouldn't go larger than an H4) or the Fifty Series ( a 56 or a 57 ).
    Cheers,

There is something very cool about the Harvard brush. I feel like it doesn't get mentioned much around here though.

(and to the OP, whatever you've finished treatment for, congrats!)

with the wife approval I would go big...Chubby 2, Polo 8, Tulip 3

With that said, I enjoy my Tulip 1 in Super (3 band) immensly..It is fan shapped and it is a pleasure to use

Brian, I think I would go with something that is tried and true. A Tulip or a Polo.

Do you face or bowl lather?

If you face lather or use shaving cream, I'd suggest you try the Ehsan, because it uses the Colonel handle (which I think is just about as close to perfection as any brush handle can be) and is filled with two-band super grade hair. It's knot isn't overly large, but is big enough to produce just enough lather for about three or four passes when loaded.

If you bowl lather, then it's kinda hard to argue with the Chubby 2 in best badger. While I do not own that brush, the friend of mine who got me into wet-shaving has one and I couldn't imagine needing more (ever) from a shaving brush, especially if you use a hard tallow soap or a triple-milled one. I found it to be nice and stiff without being harsh on the face, and capable of picking up a lot of soap off the puck, enough to produce truly heroic amounts of lather.

    Brian, Congrats on finishing!

Since you're familiar with the best hair, if certainly recommended a handle of your choice in 2 band.

The Fifties are great, and I'm waiting for a certain vendor to get the Harvards in stock before pulling the trigger. In your position, I would go for a classic like a PJ2 or Tulip 2 or 3.

I got my Chubby 2 2band today, and my first rough impression is that its an amazing brush. I cant speak for any other Simpsons, but I think I am going to be in love with this one.

Thanks for the replies.... have another 4 "treatments" so in 4 weeks I want to try a new Brush..... Tomorrow is the first shave in a week and the setup... Good ole sheffield steel, the Eagle, Gent's Best SS, thayers, and Gent's Best Chilled AS.

Milk Churn looks interesting... and how does the 50's and harvard stack up to the Eagle?

Forgot to say.... 95% bowl latherer, unless using a shave stick

57 has the same size knot as the Eagle, but the loft is about 2 mm higher and is slightly less dense. The handle is solid and very comfortable in hand. The Milk Churn is a nice brush, but is a bit on the floppy side.

The Eagle G3 in Best is probably the ultimate "Best-knotted" brush from Simpson you can nab, and is close to ideal. The PJs and Tulips are available in Super, which would give you a different Simpson brush experience. I don't have either, but I don't recall much if any "I hate my Tulip" threads.

Thanks Bob... It's always good to know I started with the best. I felt that it's going to be a tough act to follow... I have heard you and Johnnie gold give great praises to the 50's...Also was wondering if the wee scot is a great travel brush
