I had two weepers. Have my DE skills have depreciated? Or maybe I need to change the blade. Edit: most likely because I didn't use glycerin as a pre-shave; glycerin also protects face against the blade. I finally ordered a Fatip razor. It should arrive in two weeks from Britain. Here is a link to my straight razor journal.

After 3.5 passes I had a BBS shave with three small nicks. Unlike with a straight razor, it is not wise to shave over un-lathered areas with the R41.

One of the best shaves ever. Unfortunately the next two shaves were uncomfortable. I blame the blade.

Lately I have been using hair conditioner and/or Noxzema as a pre-shave.

I sold my Merkur Futur about a year ago; now I miss it .

Of the many DE razors I've owned, I only keep two in my rotation currently--an R41 and a 38C. The Merkur was one of my earliest purchases, and has always been a favorite. It is my best "tester" of new blades, and I feel it highlights the characteristics of different blades like no other razor for me.

I still use it once or twice a week, and sometimes for longer if I have a blemish or irritation from a too-quick shave with the Muhle.

    Great men think alike.

My only two DE razors are R41 and the 38C.
