Default Deby Blade After 6 Shaves

It felt like the blade wasn't cutting today. I figured I would start the work week with a fresh blade in a fresh razor, so switched things after the last shave with the silver Tuckaway.

Here's what the blade looked like, and started using it this past Tuesday. It was not a vertical Derby.

Ewww. Ick. good thing it's the "Super Stainless" blade or it would be really nasty!

    jeeze.

I don't get six shaves out of good blades....

I think any more than 1/2 shave out of a Derby is pretty good - or out of some Derbys, anyway - I found them very inconsistent.

The chlorine in tap water causes stainless steel to rust, as does the salt i saltwater.

That blade is missing the word "ugly" between super and stainless.

I always get 7 shaves outta both versions of Derby blades and have never had one rust
I do dip my razor in rubbing alcohol after each shave. Maybe that helps preserve them.

Never seen rust on a Derby but then again they only last for less than a shave for me.

Which OC did you use DunEdinRanger?

I wonder whether silver (and gold for that matter) helps speeding up the process by making the steel a (relatively) stronger anode and thus corroding faster. Just a thought.

I barely get two acceptable shaves out of Derby's, let alone six.
Derby's look nasty when they are in the packaging and it only gets worse when you start to use them.

I mst be ok then. I've used Derbys the majority of my year of DE shaving and I have soft water and it's never rusted like that...pretty nasty.

I have city water and my blades do not look anything like that. After a week , my derbys may have a little residual coating from the shave soap.

I'll try to add a pic later but I got some vertical derbys in trade. After using one for 2 shaves I noticed some rust/stain/discoloring towards the center of the blade. I shower shave and we have very hard water so... It hasn't gotten to the edges yet, plus I open everything and remove the blade and physically dry after a shave so I was suprised.

This happens to nearly every blade I use in my rotation, especially vintage blades. It happens in every razor I use. I do have a water softener, but it did happen before we had it installed. It really doesn't affect the shave quality since I can only get at most three shaves from a blade, except for Timors and 74's. I think that in my case it is the blade coating that is turning yellow since the blades edge never actually rusts.

I on average get six shaves from a Derby blade and I am living the suburbs with medium hard water. What annoys the hell out of me is the quality of each five pack is all over the map. I get two great packs then one dud where one blade after another produces a nasty shave.

I get 4 shaves out of a Derby blade. I've never seen it rust and very satisfied with the service I get out of them.
