Alum Troubles

My alum block had one side totally smooth that I rubbed on my face, and the rest of the edges were too jagged. The other day I banged the smooth side against the sink and chipped it so now it is jagged everywhere. I tried using it anyway and got little scratches all over. Does anyone know how to smooth the rough spots of an alum block without using your face? Thanks in advance.

Wrap it in a wet washcloth and put it in a plastic bag. Every few hours for a day or two rub the wet washcloth on the block. This will dissolve and smooth it out. Some of the block will dissolve, but with what they cost it isn't a biggie.

I concur on the RazoRock. I got one in a PIF and it's become an indispensable tool in my shaving arsenal. It's easy to throw into your dopp kit as well if you're the traveling sort.
