Default I think i just had my first DFS with my DE!

Long time lurker, First time poster

here was my set up. Shaved after a nice hot shower

    Shea Moisture Shave Brush
    Merkur long handle
    Wilkinson Sword Blade
    C.O. Bigelow Proraso Shave Cream
    Thayers Witch Hazel

Finally after a month or so of wet shaving with my Merkur I have achieved a DFS! It was only my Second shave with the C.O. Proraso and now I understand why the stuff gets such high praise on here. one Little dab in my mug and the stuff explodes in a minty eruption of eucalyptus and menthol! I work at whole foods market so when I first started wet shaving I was using KMF patchouli ( Whole Foods Team members get 20% off on all products) but the stuff was just not cutting it for me. I loved the smell and the lather is amazing but it left my face dry and irritated. SO I convinced my wife to let me buy The C.O. From BBW because they were running some amazing deals and she could get some of her favorite hand soaps and I could get some shave stuff and everyone would be happy. I am so glad I did because I was about to go back to my Fusion But now I have found the joys of wet shaving.

Also I think i found a new helpful tip for beginners. Turn off the faucet so you can hear the shave. My wife was yelling at me for wasting so much water when I shaved because it took me so long and I leave the water running while shaving. This time I heeded her warnings and filled up the sink with Hot water, plugged the drain and began to shave. Being able to hear the shave really helped me get the angle just right and alerted me to when i was pressing to hard. So to any newbies out there Listen to your environmentally concerned significant others and TURN OFF THE WATER ALREADY!!

One last thing I really want to start trying more products Like other blades, brushes, Soaps Etc. But again the wife doesn't see the point of having more than one option for shaving. So if any veterans could share ways that they have been able to either convince their wives to let them buy more stuff or any money saving tips.

Thanks for this Site and the great community!

Not a veteran but when SWMBO asked me why I needed multiple options I asked if she could wear the same lipstick and the same perfume ever day.... then I got a smug look on my face as I knew what her answer was going to be... and I quote: "yeah, OK smart ass..."

Welcome !! and I agree that it helps to shut off the water so you can hear what you are doing.

Nobody has pointed out the obvious yet.
Show here the cost of a pack of 10 Fusion 3's. Then show her the cost of 100 DE blades.

Your habit is saving you money every time you shave. So you really can afford to buy a few more soaps, and a $150 brush, every now and then (ie: fridays ;) )

Welcome! Nice kit and good results!

Good tip on the sink as well. I plug mine and fill as that is what I remember my grand dad doing back in the day but hearing your shave is a great practical benefit!

As to soaps, my wife does roll her eyes a bit and I can't play the perfume card as she is more earthy-crunchy, Northern California type. What I have done to good effect is purchase bath soap along with my shave soap. For instance she LOVES MWF bath soap. In fact, I just had to order four more bars for her as she wants to share with some friends!
