Red Personna Blades

Today I tried a Personna red blade for the first time. So far, nothing has been as consistent as the Astra SP blade. The Feathers were good, but I didn't care for the Derbys.
The Personna started out just fine. They flowed down and across my face and seemed to be giving me a smooth, close shave. When I went for the 3rd pass ATG, I had some problems. The blade didn't feel as smooth on my neck, and when I got to the chin, the Personna just ran out of gas. My whiskers are a little tough in that area, but that's not out of the ordinary. The blade was really pulling, so I added more cream to try to help. After a couple of seconds, I could tell that this blade wasn't going to finish this shave without causing me some serious pain. I called in my other razor, which was still loaded with an Astra SP, and it just sailed right through the tough whiskers. I was really shocked at the difference!

It seems like a lot of people like the Personna red blades, but for me the Astra SP does a much better job! I guess blades really are a personal thing.

Blades are an absolutely personal thing. I love the Personnas, but my buddy gets no love for them at all. He loves Feathers, but they rough me up a little too much. Try a blade sampler if you haven't already.

I'm on the Red IPs in a sampler pack that I've been working my way through as well, and I don't like them so far. After two shaves, I'm getting more tug and less close than I had been getting with my favorites so far: Derbys.

I like the Red Personnas, but I don't get more than three decent shaves per blade and sometimes the third one is a little rougher than 1 and 2 ... like this morning. Sure, I ended up with a DFS and no obvious irritation or weepers. But my post-shave splash of witch hazel, which usually goes on nice and easy, felt like a good blast of Clubman. Now, I know Clubman is going to burn -- that's part of its attraction. But when the witch hazel burns, too, well, I knew the blade was a little rougher than I'd expected.

I have very coarse hairs that will dull out a blade quickly, and have found the Reds to last no more than two shaves on me. While this is a much shorter life span than other blades I have tried, those two shaves are generally excellent and they are so inexpensive that they have still become my number 1 blade.

Same here. I'm going through my sampler packs and while the reds are decent; my 3rd shave was pretty darn rough. I'll give them another try later down the road.

Started on Derby's this morning. So far -meh.

Blades definitely are a YMMV thing for sure.
