How did I sterilize the brush??
First I washed it out, hand-lathering with some soapy water to remove all the grime and dust and also to see if there are any hairs coming loose. Then rinse it thoroughly with warm running water. The sterilization, or better disinfection, was done with the Sally's brand of Barbicide, very diluted (4 oz/gal - according to their recommendations for barber tools) for some ten minutes. Again rinse out very well and then hand-lathered with a nice soap 3x times, followed by very good rinsing and drying for two days. No hairs came out and the knot is quite nice for such an old brush.

A couple of orphans, on the left a Chubby1, which was made for a customer who then decided against it, happens sometimes. The wood is resin stabilized and golden dyed Maple Burl. Diameter of the hole is 15/16" (or about 23.5 mm) and the depth is 17 mm. Price is $25 plus shipping.

The other is a left over from my last offer a few weeks back. These were some of the samples I made for the 2012 LE brush, the third variation was chosen. Hole size is 24 mm in diameter and about 14-15 mm deep. Price was lowered to $20 plus shipping.

As always, first come - first serve. I will be traveling for my real job from tomorrow on through all week. So if you buy one of these, it will ship next Saturday.

Some soaps for sale that do not get much use:
Very lightly used Trumper's Eucris in the black wooden bowl plus a refill puck. Purchased directly from Trumper's UK when it came out some years ago and was not obtainable here in the USA. I like to get $30 plus shipping for the lot (if you purchase both together, the price is about $48-50 for both).

SOLD Some tallow based artisan soaps, I do like them, but they get not much use at all (each was used 7 times or less and are all 95% full). Two Queen Charlotte Soaps (Key Lime and Vetiver) and Mystic Water in Mysore Sandalwood. I would like to get $25 plus shipping for them (if purchased they would add up to something like $40). SOLD

Im sorry if this is a very dumb question. But does $25 cover both the handle and a brush? I might be interested in the Chubby1.

    Wishful thinking. The answer: No.

$25 is a steal for that handle.

as a general rule, the surplus handles shown are "handle only" no knot. you guy a knot from WhippedDog or TheGoldenNib and put it in yourself, then you can choose what grade hair you want.

    Rudy's handles are very nice

Sorry my friend, it is for the handle alone. From time to time I make a handle and then the customer decides he wants a different one, or jumps off completely like in this case. Then I have a surplus handle and I sell them so others can enjoy a RV Shaving handle and I have no loss for making this handle.
    BTW, the Chubby is sold!

The restoration turned out beautiful Rudy, and I love the knot.

    Default The "Anton"

Rudy just passed along some pics of the brush that he finished up for me today. It is a 24mm TGN Silvertip standing tall at a 52-53mm loft. It is set in a beautiful golden box elder burl handle that takes its shape from the Rooney style 1 - the round top was copied from the Dark Knight brush featured earlier in this thread. It is just awaiting the final touches from the engraver this weekend, and then it will be on its way to me! I am pleased to call this brush my first "real" brush.

Rudy was a pleasure to work with. He was able to take the picture in my head and make it a reality. Thanks RV!

Default Received my custom RV Brush!

Gentlemen, I have in my possession a custom made Rudy Vey brush. I chose the handle shape which is a classic look I think and is made from a block of Burl Redwood. I think it looks fantastic! The knot is a 22mm super silver tip badger and I choose the bulb style.

Thanks Rudy for this finely crafted brush!

As an alternative to payment with paypal, I also take credit cards. The way I process my cards, without a machine, I need not only the card number, expiration date, name on card and the security code, but also your zip code where the card is registered - the reason I can only process USA based credit cards. The system I use is called "Propay" and allows small businesses as mine to take credit cards without the high monthly fees. I use this now for several years and never had any issues with it. On your card statement "Ultimatependesigns" will appear.
But, I also take check, money order, and even cash

Please note: I can only take credit cards from the USA - I need an US zip code for processing. Thanks for understanding.

I just picked up another two cases of Lea Shave Cream in the travel size from Joe of "Shave a Buck". As long as they last, a tube will be added to any of my brushes sold.
Thanks to Joe! His website is:

He carries some nice rare items one cannot find easy here in the USA!

I often get the question what loft I would recommend. Loft is often depending how you lather and what you use. Soap users and face lather often prefer a shorter loft, while bowl lather guys prefer a longer loft. But, YMMV. I have taken quite some time ago pictures of a 20 and a 22 mm knot in the two standard shapes bulb and fan and trying to show how the shape of the knot is affected when setting it at a certain loft. The info is here:

    http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthr...know-parts-1-4

When I make a brush and the customer asks me for a certain loft height, I will do always my best and put the knot at the requested height. I strive to be within a +/- 1 mm range, which I think is quite achievable. For doing so, I shim the knot with small slices of cork to get to the requested loft.
