Thanks!...this maybe a silly question, but being as I have never used a stick how does the lather process work compared to a soap puck or cream?

Great value for money. Miles better than the Erasmic stick. Scent is... meh. Like another poster mentioned, reminds me of toilet cleaner.

I prefer the (Euro) cream - similar, but much nicer smell, and shaves equally well, if not better.

I'm loving Valobra stick at the moment, but the smell is boring - guess I'll have to save up for some AoS!

I'm in the same situation. Never used one before but was ordering blades and decided to add it to my order.

Most straightforward method is to face lather. Wet end of stick (particularly the harder ones like Palmolive), soak your brush as you prep or shower. Rub stick over your stubble, I just apply to cheeks and chin. Shake or squeeze excess water from your brush and then just swirl over the soapy bits for instant lather! If your water is hard you might need to work the brush a bit more.

I really like the smell. The Wilkinson Sword shave bowl smells more like loo cleaner to me, but in a nice way.

I get a great lather from the Palmolive stick, but the scent just isn't for me. Otherwise it would be my go-to for sure.

Addicted? Not quite. But whenever I see it on the shelf at 49p I wonder if I should grab half a dozen and hope the cashier doesn't give me funny looks.

Great stuff. I've used it almost exclusively since late Jan, down to just a half inch or so left. Speick stick is next...

Not as cheap in the States but it's great soap. However, I milled it into a container because I do not like face lathering. In a dish it acts as regular soap and I can lather it normally.

I've got em both, and they are both good products.

Any Germans (or anyone for that matter) on here know what store i could pick a stick up at? I have seen the tube in Rossman. I always look around for this Gut und Guentig (good and cheap) stuff but never find it!

Took the plunge and grated down a stick into IKEAīs "Grundtal" container. It works even better in the shape of a puck as stated by many before me.

In my opinion this tallowy soap actually performs just as good as the mighty Cella.

    Hello.
In Germany here you can pick up the Palmolive stick in every "dm", "Schlecker" or discounter ;). The price varies between 0,49 Euro to 1,15 Euro ...

Itīs a great shaving soap that used by my grandpa, father and now me as long as I shave :).
    Good luck to find.

    Greetings

I totally agree. A couple of days ago as I was admiring the amazing lather of Palmolive, it dawned on me that I had seen the same lather just the day before --- Yardley! Nobody knows the ingredient list for Yardley, but I am of the opinion they're basically the same. Yardley is a wonderful shaving lather, and aside from the color and the mild fragrance, I think they're close enough to be the same soap. Just my opinion, but I'm sticking to it! I love them both.

. . . He went around back and into the basement because he was hungry. He ate cold beans out of a can and drank some water, and then he saw the small mirror Parker had bought with the razor and the can of lather. He looked at himself and knew he had to take a chance on staying long enough to shave. He shaved, and that made him feel better. . .

Also interesting: If you cut a stick in half, each half will fit nicely in a 35mm film-canister for easy and dry transportation (think travel shaving).
I prefer my shaves like my humour: Cold and sharp.
