  1. Default New here, plus post shave Q

Just started out DE shaving this week. I remember my dad had one when I was little, but when it came time for me to start shaving, he had switched to electric, and that's pretty much what I've done my whole life. Though I do shave my legs with cartridge blades and goop in the can now and then (I'm a competitive cyclist).

I've got a sampler pack of blades, still have a lot to learn but got my best shave today. I can make an ok lather with soap, but for the life of me can't do the same with cream. Maybe it's the hard water here, but I'm going to try another brand and practice a lot before writing it off. Even shaved my legs last night to retire a blade, which worked out decently enough.

Here's my question. Like I said, most of my life I've used an electric shaver. But now, especially the last two days, it seems like I sweat a bit on my face, mostly on my upper lip and lower lip down to my chin. Not on my cheeks or my neck. Is this normal? Or am I hacking the skin there? I use some aftershave balm, and I'm trying to close my pores after shaving with cold water, but am I doing enough? I really seem to notice this the most when I'm exercising more than anything else. If it's normal, does this go away with time? Like I said, I never really remember this happening with an electric. Any comments appreciated.

Welcome! I raced for 20+ years myself and spent the vast majority of my teen/adult life shaving up the legs.

Can't comment on the sweating as it has not been an issue here but those more experienced will chime in I am sure.

Welcome to B&B. Can't say why you are sweating and why this comes from shaving.

I'm no doctor or dermatologist so this could be way off but here is my two cents:

I think it is normal, I mean I used to sweat in those places as well, especially if I had shaved.

I think one of the reasons may be that wet shaving exfoliate better resulting in cleaner skin and in turn less clogged pores. This would probably result in more sweat actually coming out. To me this is a good thing though because if what I'm saying is true it means the sweat isn't staying in which I don't think would be good for you.

Also when using after shave balm I noticed I used sweat a lot because I had a tendancy to go overboard with it and coat my face in it. I think this would cause more sweating as well. You could try using less balm or you could try looking for one that absorbs better.

    Welcome to Badger & Blade!

I really am not sure about the sweating part, but it would not hurt to try an after shave splash. Maybe that will end it, but of course that is just a guess.

    Welcome to B&B!

You will probably get use to it or your skin will adjust eventually for the sweating. I don't have it.

One thing I did to take care of this was I stopped using Nivea sensitive after shave balm. I know it sounds crazy because that is the stuff that everyone likes, but it doesn't absorb for me and causes my face to sweat. I prefer L'oreal comfort max after shave balm with spf15. It absorbs amazingly, smells good, and really heals your face well.

    Welcome to B&B.

Let us know how the lip sweating issue works out in a week or two. Trying different products may help. Do you use after-shave? That is one variable you could change.

    Default Update

    Just a quick update.

I still get a little bit of sweating, but nothing like the day I first posted a question about. On that day, it was like someone had turned on a faucet or something.

Now, it's still there, but not really bothersome. I've tried different post-shave methods and products without any real significant differences. I think I do get slightly more sweating with Nivea ASB, kind of like wolfmanxiii mentioned, but it's not a real big deal.

    Welcome to B&B.

I began wet shaving back in middle June, and now that you mention it, I remember sweating on my upper and lower lip and on the edges of my chin also. It doesn't happen anymore so it may just be a way of your skin adjusting to the new routine.
