    Default Beard Envy and Beard-Be-Gone!

    Hi everyone,

I was just in the chat room and guys were talking about their shaves today and a familiar feeling swept over me. A feeling I've come to call "beard envy".
Now I must firstly say that I like not having a beard.
I'm sure there are days for you all when having to shave it is a hassle BUT being on here and reading everything you guys have to say sometimes gives me beard envy. I wish I could shave out of the shower (I don't own a bath and it gets messy doing it outside of the shower. I have a delicate "shower-on, shower-off" system worked out ) and I wish that each morning I could lay out my tools on the shelf beside the sink (instead of on the ground outside of the shower).

This got me thinking about how day after day you get up and shave and, for the most part enjoy it and just much effort goes in to constantly removing something that will always grow back.
And then a thought popped into my mind!
    Beard-Be-Gone!
If there was a product that could get rid of your facial hair, not even forever, but say, for a full week, and each and every day of that week you would wake up and be BBS smooth how tempted would you be to use it?
Do you enjoy shaving too much to do that?
Do you wish there was something that could get rid of the hair forever and everyday could be a BBS day, or do you like having the option of a beard?

I was thinking "if I could get rid of my leg hair permanently and easily, would I?" and you know what... I'm not sure, as I really like shaving. Maybe I would use it and just shave on top anyway pretending I was getting such a close shave all by myself!

When I was using a cartridge razor I used to dream of a process that would mean that all facial hair was removed forever. I hate having a beard they are evil itchy things. Any more than two days growth and my face will be itching like mad.

Now I have gone over to DE shaving I long for the time that I can next have a shave. Shaving is ace.
I have far too much stuff to even begin to list it here...

I heard stories about a creature who had all that nasty beard removed from his face, so he never had to shave again.

Later on, he decided that a little stubble would make him look stylish. He had some hairs implanted on his chin. Some people wondered where the doctors got those hairs. Maybe they took them from some other place on the patient's body. Where, I wonder?

I don't think I'd take the pill. It would look weird to go camping or throw a drunk and not have the stubble after a couple of days.

    Default I would keep shaving

Since I lost a majority of the hair on the top of my head, I shave a lot more area than most men do (on the sides of my head and most of my face, except the mustache and goatee). Now, would I like a pill to restore my head hair that worked without ANY side effects (such a pill does not exist), YES! I say this since necessary medical treatment accelerated my hair loss so I question every physician about side effects (because they seem sometimes to be worse than the original problem). However, if given the choice, I would still shave because it is all about having options.

BTW, I refuse to wear any hairpiece because for the most part they are silly. I am not an actor who needs to have a certain look for a part in a movie, so I go with the chrome. As in the words of another chrome dome, "Who loves ya baby" !

Yep, in a second. I love shaving now but I'd love never having to worry about it even more.

Curious - so you would rather never to have to shave ever again? What is it about it that causes you "worry" or is it just a hassle for you?

No I don't wish my beard would go away, nor do I wish that I wouldn't sweat. Both need attention, but giving then that attention makes me feel far cleaner than just a shower possibly could. It's the "lite" version of rebirth.

If I body-shaved I would feel different. I did that for a short while as a re-enactor when I was portraying a Cherokee, and they shaved or plucked everything but a scalplock. While shaving sounds like excessive devotion to the hobby, the common clothing while on the trail exposes quite a bit of your chest, arms and legs, and applying the customary bear fat & vermillion pigment paint mix over hair is something you won't do twice. You don't look painted, you look like you just finished wallowing in an abbatoir. So, I appreciate the downside of shaving when it's the body instead of the face.

I also appreciate the juggling required to shave in the bath because I have done it. Trying to manage a razor, towel and brush (and a mirror, for we face shavers) takes some planning unless you're doing it to help in writing a Marx Brothers skit.

Between my very thick beard and very sensitive/crappy skin, I've just always had a rough go of it. Before I started DE shaving it was absolute misery, by Wednesday of every week my face was a painful, bleeding wreck and I ran through cartridges like I owned Gillette stock. Now obviously that's changed and I enjoy the shaving process, enjoy tinkering with the gear, etc. But even my closest and most comfortable shaves leave me looking shadow-y. Not to mention the still ever-present threat of stuff like irritation and ingrowns on my neck (which will be forever chopped up, I think). It may be a labor of love, but it's still labor. For me, wetshaving isn't anything more than trying to extract the maximum pleasure and ease out of something that just unfortunately has to be done. If I could just be smooth and clear with no hassle, I'd take it in a heartbeat and never look back.

Given the choice... 1 year ago would have gone for the pill to stop the growth.... Since it was not available, the beard stayed and was very rarely trimmed. Since coming back to wet shaving and straights/SE....no way in Hell

    I wouldn't do it.

I enjoy shaving now, but I still want the option of growing a beard if I wanted to. I mean, that's just manly. What if I was to get stranded in Alaska or something? A big honkin beard would help my face stay warm! Survival of the fittest, not the lady-men.

(No offense to the ladies. I am quite proud my wife doesn't grow facial hair. )

I actually looked into laser removal during the dark days of cartridge shaving. Seemed like a good option in light of the usual razor burn and expense imposed by Gillette.

However, shaving has become a ritual I enjoy. I would not want to give it up. Also, I enjoy developing a bit of stubble - I like to see it disappear with irritation-free shaving.

The chemicals likely involved with such a product would make the notion prohibitive for me.

I cannot begin to imagine the list of side effects that would come during a commercial for that. The phrase "sudden, uncontrollable and loose..." jumps to mind

I'd have to skip the "bear-b-gone" pill myself. I don't shave every day, mostly because I get distracted and by the time I realize that I need a shave, it's well into evening. I also like to swing back and forth between bald-face and goatee (I can't grow more than a pathetic full beard).

Besides, I enjoy the shaving process too much these days to forgo it completely.

"No" to both options. I have no desire to turn myself into a pre-pubescent boy.
