Default Best Way to Get a Mint or Near Mint FatBoy

I'm trying to reason why someone with a cherry FB for sale would post at 2am on B/S/T rather than respond to a WTB request - the price is listed on B/S/T and so why wouldn't the seller just pm the WTB person directly - do they hope for a biding war ? Is that the rationale ?

I've had a WTB post out there for awhile and no one has responded with mint or near mint and according to feedback I got from another post there are plenty of prime FBoys out there ??

    It's puzzling ??

Anyone have a logical explanation or am I just overthinking this ?? -- I keep coming back to the logic that there aren't that many out there that people want to part with !!!

Don, it's very simple: hardly anyone checks the WTB posts before posting a FS item. Sorry about that, but it's human nature. You can post a WTB if you like, but that's no substitute for checking the B/S/T religiously. The early bird gets the razor.

You might also try adding a polite "WTB: fatboy" to your signature. If you are active and helpful on the forums, someone with a surplus fatboy might PM you.

    Don,

Bidding wars are not permitted here, so that is not the motivation. Just check the B/S/T when you can -- no one is obligated to check the WTB forum before posting an item for sale.

You may have also set your sights a little high -- there are very few mint razors floating around. There are more near-mint razors, but often times members choose to classify their razor as lower than that, so as to not disappoint.

    Good luck in your search.

I never check the WTB section before I post a sale. I have a feeling that I am not alone.

Fatboys were made well and usually clean up nicely. As long as there's no pitting, brassing or physical damage, pick one up. You can polish it up like new and repaint the numbers if you want. It'll look pretty good if you do that and it will be a great shaver, too.

couldn't agree more. why pay top dollar when you can get one for a reasonable price, polish it up, re-paint the numbers and have a near-mint for half the price? there's plenty of good advice on cleaning to be found here. its easy to do too.

with 40 minutes of cleaning this is what mine looks like:

I could easily sell mine on the 'bay for $80US+ I won't though

When I mentioned the bidding war on ebay for FB razors and the high cost, I received a few PMs from members willing to sell me one.

And now you will buy from the person offering the best FB at the lowest price, having created the reverse of the bidding war you were concerned about

I think a lot of us order from the 'bay, take a risk and see what we get. We clean 'em, fix any issues (uneven blade gap), and then, (if we have a better one) sell 'em. I did this several times 'till I got one I am content with. Mine had a case, and "low hours", and the numbers were still dark. One of the hinges was bent quite a bit however, so I took pics, sent 'em to the seller, got a refund, then fixed the razor Stick with it, you will find a nice one eventually.

How do you go about fixing uneven blade gap? I've got this issue on my Slim Adjustable - one side clearly has a bigger gap than the other.

Basically use a small screwdriver to GENTLY pry, a little bit at a time.
There's quite a bit already posted about this.
But I LIKE to wipe my blades!

I placed an add in the WTB Section and within 3 days bought 3 different Fatboys! All my WTB adds have resulted in purchases..
