Default Is there any value in buying a razor with a broken tip

and grinding the blade into a new shape at the end? I've seen a few on eBay that are sqare tips with a chunk out the end and wondered whether it's worth grinding the end to get rid of the midding chunk. Or are they junk and better left alone?

Depends. It is do-able, but it's all about the doing of it. Also what you are paying for it and what you end up with. A nice Fila with a chip in the tip for $20? Sure. Go for it. A GD for the same price, same prob to fix? Most folks wouldn't bother. Already got a nice bench grinder and a dremel? Well, that's a point in the "go for it" column. Lots of time on your hands, and a fondness for that sort of thing? Another point.

Just remember it will probably take about 5 times as long as you think it will. Don't let the blade get overheated when using power tools. This is easy to do when you are working with thin steel, and it will ruin the temper, and re-tempering is not something you want to have to get into to rescue your fixit project. In fact, you might want to practice your operation on a totally worthless blade because you will be amazed at how quickly you get those funny blue marks on your blade.
