Default No Luck Converting Friends to DE

After discovering DE shaving I have tried to interest my two best buddies but neither of them seem to think that the extra time, fuss, and learning curve are worth it. In reflection, I know that if they tried to turn me on to baking my own bread, because it is "so much better but takes a lot of time" I'd say no and still just pick it up at the bakery. I realize that I should be helpful if they're curious but I shouldn't proselytize; we each have our own tastes and priorities.

It is difficult sometimes. Some are just called.

You could try sneaking up behind them, hold the razor to their neck and whisper "Don't move...."

    I'm just intense like that...
I'm not bald, okay? I shaved my head. Do you "unda-staand"?

To each their own but if they come to you one day with faces that looked like they shaved with a cheese grater than you can smile and say "I told you so, here's what I would do."

Maybe I should try this on SWMBO's legs
She's wanting to be more environmentally friendly, so I told her stop throwing away plastic razors and even bought her a DE. She still hasn't taken the plunge yet though.

Bingo! It's nice to extol the virtues but I would wait until they ask or if they have a shaving issue.

I see it not as a a failed conversion, but as less ebay/BST competition

Even after admitting he had the best shaves of his life using my DEs my little brother said it takes too much time and energy. Plus he just dropped $30 or $40 on a new Gillette multi-blade vibrator, so he doesn't want to "waste his money".

Most of my co-workers and friends laugh at the idea of using a Straight or DE Razor saying that companies went away from this technology for a reason(we won't get into what the reason really was).

Not everything new is better. Just remind them that Windows XP was replaced by Vista. That will shut them up.

That is so true. I will definitely use that line again, and probably soon.

My friend thought I was weird when he found out I used a DE. But while talking to another friend at his work, he found that guy uses a straight. Suddenly the DE didn't seem so strange. I got him using a DE now. It really depends on perspective. It may be strange but not as strange as the next guy.

    Talking to people never works.

If you have a friend, you can PIF him a kit and he will try it, but talking just gets you this...

This is a personal and narrow field in the scheme of life, in my area. Fogeys here don't discuss personal grooming as a rule. I've learned a lot by following this thread.

Still, when I bring up participating on a Shaving Forum, or having a comfortable shave... Most of the old birds I hang with think I've lost a bolt or two. Shoot, most of em don't even know what a Forum is!!!

The ladies like my new after shave but... The fellas. Not so much. Discussion is moot. Nada. Kaput, get outta here!
