I began wet shaving because of the style and class that goes along with using a good quality razor and brush. The added benefits are economy and ecological concerns. I looked at those disposable plastic things and realized that I was throwing away money and filling up landfills with garbage. Also, a great shave always makes one feel good.

Got into wet/de shaving because my electric/mach3 dry shaving was irritating my face. The electric shaver would make my upper lip very itchy. Also the cost was a big factor, kinda got tired of going onto ebay and trying to ask/see if cartridges were real or not, and trying to save bucks at the same time. Ever since using de/wet shaving all my burn/itchy problems have disappeared. It's crazy how a blade can influence these things.

I started my wet shaving journey two years, I just wished that I had discovered it earlier. I got tired of both the cost of cartridges and the sub-par shaves.

I'm a trumpet player and I switched to an electric razor many, many years ago to save my upper lip. My son had been wet shaving for a while and turned me on to the forums and youtube videos. The quality of the electric shave is truly terrible and most unsatisfying. I was told I'd save money on blades, but not that I'd spend hundreds of dollars on cream and brushes. I'm not even a little sorry and shaving has become something I look forward to every day.

I was wet shaving since I started but I used cartridges and Nivea shave gel. On 1/1/12 I decided to shave with straight razor because it is more economical than buying cartridges, provides a better irritation free shaves and it is something I can rely on if SHTF.

I switched from a Fusion to a DE, to be able to have a sharp blade every time I feel the need, instead of overextending the life of an expensive cartridge.

I started with cartridge razors when my beard started to grow. I never liked electric shavers even I had one before I had any beard growth I just used it few times. I think I still have it somewhere at my dads place. I did use Mach 3 and Fusion razors around 10 years before I did read somewhere DE razors and that was when I thought I want test those. To improve shave quality and save money which seems to be failed badly but at least my shave quality is improved a lot.

I found my fathers razor and i tried it.

So the main reason was curiosity.

I started wet shaving because I was exasperated at the rather poor price/effectiveness ratio of modern shave products. I keep doing it because I enjoy it, and also because I have no razor burn issues anymore.

My Braun electric finally died after ten years of faithful service. Now I'm obsessed with shaving. Thanks B&B.

When I was around 14 I started shaving with an electric, and I can still remember the terrible shaves and the pain and irritation it causes my face, once i was out of highschool I started wet shaving with a fusion and canned crap, I used that for about 6 years shaving only once a week because I hated it, the amount of irritation/cost of cartridges drove me to try the shick hyrdo5 because the carts were cheaper, then I switched to the Hydro3, and for me the results were always the same but at least the carts were about CAD$8 for 4 carts

I was looking for a better shave for my money, I wasn't necessarily looking for a cheaper shave, just better value, so I started googling, and I searched "best shave ever" and I got one of Geofatboys youtube videos, I watched it and I havn't looked back! I ordered a SS blutip, blade sampler, and a tub of TOBS lavender and a Sabi badger brush, well about a week later (after my first few shaves with the Bluetip) I ordered a Fatboy, bought a tub of Proraso from a local drug store and I'm Loving it!!!!

Im so happy I found DE shaving, I remember playing with my grandpas SS as a kid, but I thought it was long since past, Its awesome that I can shave like my grandfathers and getting the smoothest/closest and cheapest shaves of my life and SWMBO is loving it too!! WIN WN!!

Welcome to the world of tradition, and to B&B. I don't remember the details any more, but I was trying, at first, also at age 14, to shave with an electric shaver, and having no success. Given that it's now nearly 60 years ago, there was no such thing as a cartridge system anywhere, but SE razors seemed so much a carryover of the distant past, that I didn't think to find out if I could buy a new one when I started getting chin whiskers and had a lot more trouble with the SE than I had experienced with my sideburns and mustache. I tried the electric once again; I tried an open comb DE, a Gillette Good Will that I still have, and finally a Schick Injector.

We're full circle now. I'm back to where I started, having to spend as much time on a couple of dozen reluctant chin whiskers as on all the rest of my face.

Purely economic decion for me. Read an old Warren Buffet interview where he frankly stated that the key to Gillette's role as a cash cow was increasing profit margin per unit of disposable cartridge blade sold over time. The price would really go up as Gillette ventured into emerging markets. Fusion cartridges are outrageously expensive. High quality DE blades are quite inexpensive when bought in bulk.

DE for both the cool and retro factors.

So far the Schick Quattro, in the shower, using simple Dove soap, still produces the best shave in the least passes. DE with Dorco blade, Art of shaving stuff, brush, the whole nine, at twice the passes yet still not as good. Still working thru a blade sample and technique though.

Straight razor will be an attempt ............... someday lol.

I came here from the 'Art of Manliness' website. And I was hanging out there because of my interest to recapture the idea of what it is to be a man, and how that is different from what most young men are taught today. I believe men are encouraged by advertising or media or political correctness or whatever, to be different, more wimpy than we were prior to the 60s.

Anyway i got into shaving with the DE razor there. I wanted to try it and see if it was truly better than the Fusion I had used for years. Needless to say, it was! I started using a DE razor about a year ago and have never looked back. I have no intention of EVER saving with anything other than a DE razor from now on.

I think this style of shaving IS one of the manly arts we have lost over the decades. I learned that razor companies started selling disposables and the like because of profit. They are cheaper to make and they force you to continue to buy more and more expensive blades. As a result, I have learned that Old School is often best.

I shaved my goatee off at the start of the year which meant I couldn't get away with going 3-4 days without shaving the rest of my face anymore, and the reason I had been doing that in the first place was because after two shaves with a fusion it started dragging and irritating me so the less often I had to do it the better. Not only did I have to put up with irritation, I had to put up with an irritating dent in my wallet. (Seriously €12 for 3 cartridges that only give 3 good shaves and clog all the time? What planet are those guys from?) I thought there has to be a cheaper way to do this and that's what lead me hear not only was it cheaper but on the whole it was better. 6 months on, my goatee is back but my fusion isn't

I started with an electric shaver at 14 or 15, which was horrible on my skin. No matter how many times I would go over some hairs on my neck, it just never seemed to get them. So, I ditched the electric razor as it wasn't doing a complete job. Then, I got a Sensor with canned goo, which gave me better shaves, and I just accepted this as how shaving is (since it was better than electrics).
It wasn't until last year that I found this site and learned a lot about DE's before I actually jumped in with both feet. I tried it out because I thought it would be cool to have a razor of my own, and not some plastic vibrating Gillette gimick. Just a nice, shiny, classy, metal, heavy, quality, razor.

After I tried DE's for a week, I couldn't believe how close they shaved! I've been hooked ever since!
