Default Tried using Glycerin today... ...not bad.

Today I used glycerin today in place of shaving oil (which I use as a preshave oil and have had great success with). I have read here - from Liesureguy - that this works well. I rubbed some in before the first two passes of a four pass shave. After rubbing it in I used my normal lathering, today it was Taylor's Lavender. The actual shaving action was not as smooth and effiecent as I had when using oil. But I dod notice that my skin felt better during and after the shave. It felt like a healthier shave. But still it didn't have the effectiveness of using some oil. Maybe I should try using oil one day, and glycerin the next. Or, could you use both? I'm not sure if that would work. I may keep trying glycerin, and maybe with more effort it will be just as good a shave as with oil.

I also like mixing it with some witch hazel in my hands and then use the mix as an aftershave.

You can also use Trumper Coral Skin Food as a pre-shave, though it's probably the glycerine in it that does the job.

Okay, I'll try a shave oil this week. I have some Pacific Shave Oil that people say is good. Now this says use only the oil, no lather at all. Hmmmmm

Yeah, the shave oil bottle directions usually say just use the oil and nothing else. That just wouldn't feel right. But the oil with the lather on top of it - now that is a great feeling. Is Trumpers Coral Skin Food an oil?

I have found that using Mama Bears soap I really don't have to use anything else...

Next to that I will take some Kiss My Face and mix it with other shave creams...

Kiss My Face really must have a lot of olive oil in it...

I have also noticed that couple drops of glycerin (85%) into my shaving cream really improves the slide factor of razor. Haven't yet tried with glycerin alone, but I think I have to check that out as well some morning.

    Unhappy Skin peeling off neck

I had a good shave last night, but when I was rubbing in the after shave lotion on my neck the skin was rubbing off like I'd been badly sunburned and was peeling. My skin didn't look red or razor burned after shaving, but maybe I shaved too aggressively???

My neck looks fine this morning and isn't red or irritated at all.

I'm posting this here because I use glycerin as a pre-shave. Should I be reapplying it between passes? After reading a couple of the other posts in this thread, I'm thinking that maybe that is the case.

Would a shave oil be better? Would using some of the Hydrolast products give me a "slicker" shave?

Are there some inexpensive ($10 or less) moisturizing after shaves or stand alone moisturizers that I should try?

Typically glycerine is used as an every-pass pre-shave: apply a few drops before lathering for each pass.

Coral Skin Food has glycerine, no oil.

Thanks for your response. I will make sure I start using the glycerine before every pass!

Glycerin, Oil, and water together worked fairly well. I may not have got the mix ecatly as mamabear suggested, but it was a very comfortable shave. Maybe not as easy and efficient as pure oil before the later of cream, but it was a nice shave that felt healthy. I think I will keep incorporating glycerin into my shave routine. I've already decanted my bottle of it into a container that will make it easy to dispense in small amounts. I wonder if a person could simply mix glycerin, oil, and water together and just keep it all in one container?
