  1. Default Newbie Checking In, Acne Question

I began wet shaving with a DE razor a few days ago and have shaved 4 times with it so far. I have some questions about my style, and some acne I have been getting on my lower chin and my jaw line. I have a skinny face, you can say, and I have a huge angle change from my jaw line and the under chin. This point is where I get the acne. I try my best to only pass over the spot once a lather and not shave over it until its re lathered. But doing this is hard and very time consuming, this is my hardest part to shave and I can not get a close shave like I do with across the hair growth or even against the grain. Any suggestions? I shave after I shower, I use a non-acid face cleaner, and put conditioner on my face while in the shower. I use hot water and then rinse and lather. Using C.O Bigelow cream, a Boar brush, and a feather portable razor with crystal blades. I do 4 passes in total, 2 with grain, one across grain and one against grain. and normally I dont get acne.

    Welcome to B&B!

The acne sounds like irritation. Given that you are only four shaves in, I would try to relax and do fewer passes for a while - skip the ATG, for example. Work on your lather, blade angle, and pressure, and after a while you might be ready to try ATG again.

I agree that it sounds like irritation. The spots you're talking about are universal; those are the hardest spots to shave. No one gets irritation on their cheeks or neck, it's always on the jawline and under-chin.

What blades are you using? I'm comfortable with any blade I'm given, but some just flat out won't give as smooth/irritation-free of a shave.

I am using Crystal Platinum blades at the moment. I used a feather blade also that came with the razor. I changed it after 2 shaves and went to the crystal, I want to try most to see how they work. They both seem the same, well the feather cut me some, but it was also my 1st DE shave.

At the moment if the blade seems right, do not change brand right away, the less changes, the quicker you will learn. Experiment with other blades a bit later

Ditto and Welcome to B&B! I tend to leave out the ATG pass on my neck due to getting irritation more often. I end up not having a BBS shave throughout, but the lack of irritation is worth the little scruff on the neck. Plus the fact that unless you feel my neck you wouldn't know it.

Sounds like irritation to me, also. Check your angle and pressure.
