    Default First few shaves

I was kind of shocked my first shave (Merkur blade) went well, not super close but passable & no nic's or irritation. Fatboy was set to 1

2nd shave I tried to get a little closer so I tried a Fatboy setting of 3 and threw in a red Personna, the shave was very comfy still and I managed to get a MUCH closer shave.

DE shaving is a lot easier then I thought it was going to be, but I'm still a little hesitant to dial the Fatboy to 9 and throw a Feather in

Anyhow great forums with tons of information, thanks guys !

    So far my setup is

That's a good setup. It sounds like things are going well. Keep up the good work.

Welcome to B&B! Looks like a great setup, and as has been said....The shaves will only get better as you get the technique down.

    Welcome.

I am glad you are doing well. But be careful of the Feather Blades.

Thinking about trying out an Astra tonight, see how that goes. I have much tinkering to do

Yup, Astra's are my new favorite. Sharp and smooth, still going to make my way through the sampler just in case there is something that works even better for me..

Astra was my favorite DE blade!

Don't fear the Feather! I was un-impressed by them after all the publicity they got on how sharp they are... I find that Astra worked better for me... For the price (Feather vs. Astra), I think Astra is a better investment....

    As always, YMMV!

I may try the feather next time on my current shave setting of 3. Just go slow and see how it feels. The price difference really does not bother me considering I was previously using a Fusion (wow that was expensive).

Welcome to B&B! Sounds like you're doing well. DE shaving is mostly about practice. When I began using my Fatboy I dialled it very low. Nowdays I can throw in a Feather, set it on 9, and shave without any problems. With time and practice you should be able to do the same.

I'm sure I'll eventually get there, right now my fear of needlessly cutting the hell out of my face is making me a careful / slow practicer rather then rushing for the 9/Feather finish.
