    Default Deodorant suggestions?

Okay, I think I need a new deodorant (NOT antiperspirant). My current brand (Axe or Lynx for the UK folk) seems to be really drying my skin out to the point where it's peeling and feels almost raw.

    Here's some parameters:

    - Don't like anything that's white and chalky

    - Don't want to feel like I have a glob of goo under my arms

    - Don't want dried out irritated skin

    - Don't really care for sprays

    - Needs to have a good smell

    Any suggestions?

Old Spice High Endurance, Classic Scent. Don't know if it is the UK, however.

Use an Alum block! It stops smells (usually). However, you will have to hunt out a scent if one is needed/wanted.

I use the Arm & Hammmer unscented stick. It's in a bright orange container & widely available. Works well as both deodorant & anti-perspirant. I believe it comes in several scents, but I can't speak to those.

    Hope this is helpful.

Mitchum Roll-on for me. Most others cause irritation, itching, and even pain if I don't stop using them.

I second the alum block...it is not at all an antiperspirant (actually seemed to make me sweat more at first, then I went back to normal) but definitely stopped all odor.

one drawback is that it seemed to irritate my skin so i had to stop using it...but it performed fine.

I know you said you don't like sprays, but I had some pretty good results from the two sprays made by Neal's Yard Remedies.

Pricey, but they last quite a while.

I second the alum recommendations, however you'll find it cheaper if you buy it as a "deodorant crystal" (e.g. Thai Deodorant Stones or Crystal Body Deodorant). Most natural food stores usually stock them. Drugstore.com also sells the Crystal brand.

Try Mitchum or a Shavex alum. block from Mama Bear.
Mennen deoderant has a nice scent.

I'll second or third the recommendation for Alum, AKA "deodorant crystal". The nice thing is that because it is unscented, you can use whatever scented aftershave or Cologne you like.

Same here. It won't stop sweating but it will kill the odor. Otherwise, I use Burt's Bees Herbal Deodorant.

Me too. I use the annntiperp & it's fine, works well and has a good smell. Presumably the deodorant is ditto. Beware the white powdery version & go for the clear gel! I hate that 'underarmn goo' feel too, and it ain't there.
Be there or be square. Only I can do both!

I only use Old Spice deodorant, NOT the anti-perspirant. It is the aluminum salt anti-perspirant that makes it chalky and your skin and clothes dried out.

I stopped using aluminum-based anti-persoirants in the 80's and I have never regretted it.

I like C&E deodorant, esp. Nomad. Effective and long-lasting stick.

Since I arrived here, my cologne collection has been getting more of the attention it so deserves, so I was looking to get away from the generic, nasty smelling Gillette Right Guard deodorant and replace it with something unscented. The idea of the alum block intrigued me, so went out and bought a Thai Crystal. The first few days it worked great while I was bumming around the house, but once I went back to work, it didn't work as well. I guess the stress of the job caused me to perspire more and by the end of the day, I didn't feel that the odor protection was there. Needless to say, I got self-conscious of my "aroma" and went out and bought a stick of Mitchum unscented clear deodorant/anti-perspirant gel.
