LED Flashlight Rec.

EDIT> I am no longer looking for a recomendation.

I have a friend helping me with a renovation project at my home. He saw me using my Fenix LD10 and went nuts. I thought I would, as a thank you, gift him a light. Problem is... he is a bull in a china shop. I know if I gave him the Fenix it would be trashed in no time. So a cheaper or tougher option? A work tough suggestion?

Also a single AAA keychain lights? (for me) The Fenex LOP is nice, but the screw to turn on is a poor design and I would like another option.

First of all, thanks for "suggesting" another brand for me to look at. For your friend, have you looked at Coast brand?

Jim, I don't yet have it in my hands but I just traded for a Energizer Gen II Tactical Light and the former owner (an active duty soldier) speaks very highly of it.
Side note: something tells me I may have tripped across a new AD. :w00t:

No question- the pug ugly but built like a tank Nuwai Q3. One of the most dependable torches made, 1xCR123, and super bright.

They're normally ~$30, and they passed the acid test- my kid couldn't kill it during sleep away camp.

Fenix makes some nice AA clickies, but they're more than $13. :tongue_sm

Jim, I can bring my NiteCore D10 to your place if you want to check that out next week. It's a AA light and it's tougher than the Fenix's IMO. But it's in that $50 range like they are.

+1 on Surefire if you can swing it. They're not particularly cheap, but a friend of mine had one taped to an IED clearing robot in Afghanistan and the IED went off. No more robot but the surefire worked just like new with a scratch or two on it. They're seriously tough and should last as long as you do.

For $17 shipped this AA light is really hard to beat. I have two and they are brighter than my old Surefire, incandescent bulb.

This is my current EDC. I keep it attached to my keychain and it is very bright for a AAA led:

CVS sells a very solid, aluminum body LED light (bunch of LEDs) with a push button on the bottom. It comes in a plastic blister pack and costs something like $7. I can't remember the brand, but mine has worked flawlessly. Most of my family has one too now, and they all love theirs.

Thanks Guys!

Tim I would like to see your light.

Not worthy of a gift, but perfect as an emergency light are those small cheap ones, such as the Performance Tools 9 LED Flashlight from Advance Auto. This one is not bright by today's LED flashlight standard, but its as bright or brighter than those mini-mag lights that were popular 10 years ago or so. Since they were so cheap ($2.50) I bought ones for the car glove boxes, work case, toiletry bag, kitchen, etc. Puts out a moderately wide light pattern perfect for walking in the dark. I have used one of the flashlights a lot, maybe cycled on/off a 100 times for a short period each time and one LED out of the nine has gone out so far and the batteries are going down but its held up well. Small and durable.

Fenix e01 good price, won't break your heart if it get beaten up, takes one AAA
INOVA X1, tank of a torch, my personal EDC light, available at Target, takes one AA

i REALLY wish Maglite would make a LED Solitaire.
