    Default First Traditional Wet Shave

    Hey Y'all,

Tonight I had my first traditional wet shave (Kinda). I decided to test the water with VDH Soap, VDH boar brush I found at Walgreens and a 5 pack of Personna Disposable razor since I wanted to give 2 blade cartridges a chance.
Before I tell you all about my experince I gotta say buying the brush and soap was like buying condoms for the first time (most you guys remember that) nervousness like you are about to do something taboo. Maybe yall didn't see it that a way, but to me it didn't feel right since can-o-cream/gel wasn't there. Just an odd funny thought, I wanted to share.

Ok to the matter at hand. Overall I'm going to have to say it was a good experince. The lathering part was a little tricky and different, didn't seem like I got foaminess/fluff (If I am saying that right). I will watch a few more videos over and I am sure it'll come with practice. On the soap, I love the smell, it just smells fresh/clean and not obnoxious like most canned stuff. The brush was a nice change from using my hands, a little stiff, few strays fell out of it and looks a little mangled now (Maybe my technique). Its definitely not the best, but it'll get me going. As for the razors, the performed suprisingly well for a dollar. I didn't buy them to be my main razors or part of my setup, but as an experiment with two bladed carts. I got a close of as shave with them as my Fusion without the extra yanking feeling.

I am enjoying trying all this and so is my fiancee, she's always like it better when I was clean shaven (Rocked the 5 o'clock as a "style" 98% of the time we've been together.) I'm going to continue with this system for a few weeks and see where to go from there, if nothing else I still can save money and get a more enjoyable shaving experince.

Thanks Y'all for all the advice and help,
    Adam

Welcome, Adam. Practice will definitely make things better, as will watching mantic's videos. A few hairs falling out of your brush is normal. When lots of hairs start falling out, then you have a problem.

I have been sporting the 3-5 day scruff for at least the past year (using a beard trimmer). I refer to it as my sophisticated grizzly adams look. Using the DE razor for the past couple of weeks has seen an immediate change (decrease) in general skin irritation.

the DEs haven't been as bloody for me as perception i got from new initiates and more experieinced shavers. a nick or 2 the first time, but since then a lot more smooth and clean. I got for one step below BBS as I can really feel some sensitivity if I do too many passes or too often.
