    Default Another Newbie...

    Greetings all,

I have a full beard, but started shaving my head this past year. I have been using a synthetic brush with soap, and disposable razors.
I am so glad I've found this site! I always wanted to become better educated about shaving but didn't know where to go. I read the newbie faq last night, and this morning made a proper lather - what a difference! My wife said, "Your head is so shiny today, what's up?" Even now, 8 hrs later, I don't feel much stubble.
I've ordered from TESC an Edwin Jagger extra large best badger shaving brush with stand - 25mm knot - figured the larger size would work well on the head, and it was on sale.
Can anyone recommend a razor for head-shaving?

I'll leave it for someone else to advise you about a razor for head shaving, but welcome, to B&B. I have a full beard, too, and created a user group for guys on the forum with facial hair if you care to join.

Welcome. Try a Merkur HD. A great DE razor.

I will say a good badger brush is probably better for shaving the head than a boar or synthetic brush--its just softer and I know it would treat my scalp a little nicer.

But a razor? Tough question to answer. I can't specifically recommend one, as I don't shave my head (though I have a few times, usually thanks to a bet). I would suggest sticking with a cartridge for the sake of angle, but only going with the grain to minimize pulling hairs out or extra irritation. From a DE standpoint, I think a mild razor, like a Gillette adjustable or maybe a blue tip, would be a good idea. That way, a bad angle or too much pressure may not cause so much damage, and your razor will be a little more forgiving. A good blade is a must, though that is mostly your preference.

Good luck with the head--I hope you find a good razor, and pass the info along. I never know when I might shave my head again.
