What is the difference between a Merkur 1904 & Merkur 1906

What is the difference between a Merkur 1904 & Merkur 1906? They look like the same razor!

After searching for a while...I think they are referring to the same product. 1904/1906 seem to be used interchangeably with the Merkur's.

They are the same thing. I was told so by a retailer who offered the razor as 1906.

Merkur does not give most of their razors names, and that includes what is often called the 1904. Some distributor's marketing person (probably in the US and perhaps Col Conk) came up with that. It has simply been copied -- and mis-copied -- by others.

I suspect 1904 is the original because
a) I only saw the 1906 in one place myself, and
b) it is an important patent year for Gillette. I am not aware of any reason 1906 would be a special year for Gillette (but am willing to be educated).
