Default Preventing rust with Wahl clipper oil

Hello everyone. I'm thinking of an easy solution to keep my straight razors from rusting. I've done some reading and found that the following can be use: Ballistoil, Tuf-glide, camella oil, Stearoil...but I don't really know where to find this stuff. I was at a local gun shop today and the sales guy recommend G-16 or something. He said they ran out but I saw a bottle that said G-16 on it so I'm confused why he didn't sell me the $10 bottle. Anyhow, I remember that I bought a hair clipper a few years ago and it came with a tube of Wahl oil. Would this be ok to apply to the razors to prevent rusting? Thanks in advance.

That would work, but it's probably much heavier than you need. Mineral oil or baby oil (same stuff, just scented) should work fine too and is dirt cheap.

    Wahl Clipper oil:

COMPONENTS | CAS | NUMBER AMOUNT
    White mineral oil | N/A | 100 %weight

I would say it should be fine. There are plenty of gun oils, (home depot) oils, etc that would work well. I use Ballistol and Camelia myself, but there are about 100 ways to skin this cat.

My problem with oils is that they need to be wiped off before use and re-applied after. Too much work for me. TuffGlide, on the other hand... You apply it, let it dry and wipe off the excess. That is it. You are done until the next time you hone - up to year. So long as you make a reasonable effort to dry your razors, rust won't be a problem.

Where does one get TuffGlide from? I sent to the gun store and didn't find it there. I'm not a hunter so maybe I didn't look hard enough. Do I go to Home Depot or Lee Valley to get this stuff?

I used Wahl clipper oil until my camellia oil came in the mail. It seemed to do the job but if you wanted to get the Camellia oil here is a link for it.

I use the wahl clipper oil, works fine, just make sure you dry the razor thorougly first. It doesn't displace water as well as I thought it would.

I put my Hart away in a hurry once after oiling it up, and when I pulled it out I has a stain near near the hinge pin, so now I make sure I get it bone dry and oil it up. A Hair dryer helps speed the process up a bit if I'm in a hurry.

I've always used mineral/baby oil on mine, never any problems.
