Telly, are these primarily used to create slurry and clean the stone?
JimR has a nice write up in his eastern smooth blog about Jnat use, including the different nagura {here}.
He's found the Botan would be used for coarse slurry, the Tenjou for refining and polishing.
It's all really interesting for sure.

All nagura stones build slurry but these build slurry so that you can go from a dull edge to shave ready edge on one natural Japanese stone. It takes a high quality whetstone and some advanced honing skill to do this. Read here.
Nakayama, Oohira, Ozuku, etc. stones don't need to be cleaned. Just rinse off. If you meant artificial stones, I don't have any experience using natural nagura stones on them so I can't comment.
