    Default Kai Captain

Not sure if this is the right forum, please move it if it belongs somewhere else.

I purchased a Kai Captain from the board, and received it yesterday, and tried it out this morning. It is similar to the Feather AC, and can take blades from Feather and Kai. I have never used a disposable straight before, and I thought it might be a good choice when I travel, since I won't have to bring a strop (ie: one less thing to carry).

The razor seems to be of very high quality, and has more heft to it than I would have thought. I loaded it up with a Kai blade, and began shaving. The first difference I noticed vs a real straight is that it seems to be much harder to accidentally cut yourself, because of the pieces of the metal holder sticking out on either side of the blade.

I did two passes: WTG and ATG, which is my usual for DEs. With a real straight, I normally do WTG and XTG. I ended up giving myself a small cut in the moustache area, but otherwise it was a perfect BBS shave.

Also, if anyone has a good source for Kai blades that fit this razor, please let me know.

    Awesome!!

I am glad to hear your first shave with the Kai was a good one.

Glad to hear the razor arrived safely as well.

I'm glad to hear it too. I'm the one that threw those Kai's out there.
I've still got my Captain Excleia, but it sits unused now that I'm trying to get a handle on honing and collecting vintage straights. I keep eyeballing it with the thought of trying it again, now that I'm doing PDG with my vintage straights but I just don't have enough whiskers to be bothered to. Someday.

They are really well made, but the process of shaving with one was described once to me as "surgical". I'd say that is as apt a description as any I've heard.
Pride yourself on your ability to shave with it!

P.S. I may be able to find more blades for you. At worst I'll send you one of my remaining stash.
    Sending PM....

Kai Captain Blades are hard to come by, at least in the US. Good news is that the Feather AC Blades are as good or better; I still have not formed a strong opinion about that. Would be nice if Kai gave Feather a little more competition in the distribution channel.

I'll eventually give the Feathers a try, but with regards to their DE blades I much prefer KAI to Feather. I don't know what it is about Feather DE blades, but I always manage to cut the heck out of myself. Kai DEs give me a nice, close shave without any cuts.
