    Default Soap in scuttle?

I keep my soap puck at the bottom of my scuttle. Is this poor storage of the soap? Should the scuttle only be used to whip up foam? Newbie questions from the newbie. Sorry if this has been discussed already; if that is the case and you have a link for the previous discussion, then I'd appreciate a link.

    Thanks,

This technique is called lathering on the puck. It is not very popular, as it is extremely wasteful of soap.

Most people keep the soap puck in a small bowl/ cup. They load the brush in that vessel, and then move on to a bowl, or their face to generate the actual lather.

You have read through the soap tutorials correct?

im with John. You can do it, and if it works, go for your life - but I prefer to load on a puck, facelather, then put my brush to stay warm in the scuttle

Thanks. I just moved the puck to a ramekin and put that into a ziplock.

Ramekins are great. They're designed to be used in ovens, too, so if you melt any of your soaps, you don't have to sneak them into your wife's favorite pyrex measuring cup anymore!

I whip my soap lather from a scuttle in winter and a bowl in summer. Lots of rich creamy lather. My pucks last a long time and the only thing i waste is the lather left in the bowl/scuttle after 3 passes.

I used to puck lather before I knew what I was doing. It really uses a lot of soap you don't have to use. Also, you get much more consistent lathers if you load the brush before you lather in the scuttle. Another drawback to having the soap in the scuttle is that it takes away some of the heat that should be on the foam and brush.
