Default FS: Rooney 3/1 Brush Super Silvertip (5 weeks old)

    Brush is SOLD. Thanks all.

First FS post on this forum, so please be gentle!

This brush is 5 weeks old, purchased from ClassicShaving.com, and is the brush that I posted about when I received it; see: http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=143699

I am selling it because I find it just a little too small for my liking. It performs beautifully; the hair shedding that I mentioned in the prior post did not persist.

I paid $87.04 including shipping; I would like US$65, which includes insured shipping in Canada and the US. Paypal only please. Please ask if you have any questions and I will try and answer them, and if you’d like more photos, let me know.

    From Vintage Blades:

Grade 4 - Super Silvertip Badger or "Super": Silvertip is hair that is picked only from the back of the badger. It is the softest of the hairs on the badger’s body. It gets its name from the characteristic light gray, or "silver" tips rising from the distinctive dark band on the hair. The Super Silvertip, or "Super", is re-dressed, or re-sorted silvertip that is re-graded in England. Any short or twisted hairs are removed, leaving the hair feeling softer and giving the brush a lighter appearance.

Why are you cluttering this guy's FS thread with this nonsense? Nice brush.

This is why ,just trying to clarify the difference to our members, this is from wikipedia:
    Super badger
A super badger brush is a more expensive than either 'best' or 'pure'. While some call this hair 'silvertip', it is often highly graded 'pure' hair bleached on the ends to resemble silvertip. note: resemble a silvertip
Though it is composed of 'pure' badger hairs, 'super' is graded and sorted to such a degree that its performance is superior to that of 'best'. The brush is not prickly.
One way to determine if a brush bears a 'super' or 'silvertip' badger hair load is to look at the color of the bristle tips. A true 'silvertip' brush has tips that are an off-white. A 'super' brush on the other hand has bristle tips that are a more sterile, slightly greyed white; moreover, the light color of the tips does not extend as far down the shaft of the hair.
    [edit]Silvertip badger
Silvertip badger is the most expensive and rare type of badger hair. The tips on this hair appear white naturally, without bleaching. A "flared" bristle load gives results in the 'silvertip' brush's fluffy appearance and lends the brush its ability to hold a large amount of water. Due to its water retention capacity, a 'silvertip' brush can create well-formed shaving lather quickly and easily.
Some manufacturers such as Plisson, Simpsons and Rooney sell shaving brushes in a grade beyond silvertip. While the names these companies give this 'extra silvertip' vary, the properties remain fairly consistent between manufacturers as compared to the 'ordinary silvertip' brush. These brushes differ in appearance (the tip is whiter and extends further down the shaft; additionally, the hair under the tip is pure black as opposed to dark grey in color) and feel (the extra silvertip feels slightly firmer and less "prickly" on the face when lathering).
Brushes made of 'extra silvertip' with a high-quality handle can sell for over $1000.

According to the vintageblades website, which Tha Baron quoted, the 'Super Badger' label on the brush itself means that the brush contains badger hair that can be classified as Silver Tip. In other words, the Super Badger label on a Rooney brush is their way of designating Silver Tip hair. The seller has not in any way misrepresented what they have for sale. They have accurately described what they are selling and before posting comments suggesting otherwise it would be prudent to ensure that the information provided is accurate.

Thanks Brian, and others. The brush was certainly sold by the vendor as a Super Silvertip.

Hell of a deal on this, I'd say. I paid only $10 less just a few days ago for a 1/1 on the B/S/T.

I'm sure wikipedia has an entry for Small, Medium and Large... or would it be Tall, Grande and Venti?

In your mind, does this also mean that the Simpsons "Super" is not silvertip either?

dude, im not here to mess sales up, i have sold stuff here for our members at a great loss as a loyalty. i mean great razors such as mint cased toggles, fatboys ect. if i post something it aint to derail someone, its to make the seller or buyer aware of something, and when i post it its from my past knowledge of reading it or from other sources..if its a mistake or misleading i ackowledge it and and learn from it, i have stated that i made this statement based from wiki. it was not my mind. other members here either corrected it or added to it to help other members decide if its a good badger and blade price. IT SEEMS LIKE THE BADGER BRUSHES HAVE SOMEWHAT AMBIGUOUS DESCRIPTIONS WITH SILVERTIP AND SUPER BADGER, this is what seems like what started it all. good luck to seller and buyer, seems like a great price.

I agree you have the best intentions in mind and I commend you for selling items at below market value (though I'm not sure how that is relevent to commenting on this brush). Your first post could have stated your thoughts with a little more context in stead of just saying its "...not silvertip".

Shavemac sells badger hair brushes in Finest - that's still a Silvertip hair grade and it's considered slightly lower than their Silvertip. Every manufacturer calls their hair grades different names (e.g. Shavemac Finest has nothing to do with Rooney Finest). In the end, who cares what the hair it's called or what it says on the brush handle, it's all about price and performance.

Rooney Super are very nice brushes, I have a 1/1 and love it. So are Shavemac brushes Finest or Silvertip.

Forget wikipedia, I'd rather use our own wiki here:

    http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/index...sh_Hair_Grades

Buyer, enjoy the brush and ignore the noise. It is a fine purchase. You won't need another brush, which doesn't mean you won't want more brushes.
    Have a great shave!
