    Question What wrist?

Hello gents! I have a quick question that may be more of a preference item for most of us. I have always wore my wristwatches on my right, dominant-hand, wrist. I have seen a great many people however that wear theirs face-down on their non-dominant wrist. I realize this is a carry-over from tradition to protect the watch. My question is this, however; does etiquette play in to which wrist the watch is to be worn in, or is it simply now a question of preference? Surely for those who have particularly pricey time-pieces, protection of the face is still paramount. So B&B...where and why do you where your watches?

people who wear their watch on their right wrist are weird. I always think they're a little off kilter.

    Left wrist, face up.

    Right handed.

    Me, too.

These days, we who wear watches are probably a vanishing breed since it seems most people just rely on their cellphones for telling time.

Right wrist, but I am right handed. I started this I think because my mom is left handed, so it just stuck with me. When I sail it is also easier to access that hand for countdown timing.

Edit: I also hate how many of the diving watch crowns dig into my wrist. So I wear the watch on the left wrist to save my skin and wrist.

If you're gonna build a time machine into a car, why not do it with some style?

I was taught growing up that you wore your watch on your non dominant wrist. Its personal preference on face up or down.

I wear mine face up on the left wrist.

left wrist, facing up. The classic way to wear a watch. Its how they are designed to be worn. You try using the crown of a mechanical watch with your left hand if your wearing it on your right wrist.

    Pretty impossible huh!!

    Rubbish!

I am left handed and wear my watch on the right wrist and have no issues adjusting the crown. I guess you righties are just challenged eh?

You wear the watch on the non-dominant wrist because there is less chance damaging it in daily wear but in the end you wear it as you wish. There is no etiquette involved.

Most lefties I've seen (including me) wear the watch on the right hand. Yeah, accessing the crown while wearing the watch is a lot harder, but I always take the watch off to set the time so not a problem.

Actually, I like having the crown on the "elbow side" as otherwise a protruding crown can be uncomfortable when you push your hands back.
Be there or be square. Only I can do both!

Absolutely on the non-dominant hand face up. Why would anyone wear a watch face down? What would you do if you wanted to check the time, take out your pocket watch? :-)

Well, guess I'm one of the exceptions. I'm left handed and wear on the left.

Left handed, but wear my watch on my left wrist (face up).

Tried wearing one, briefly, on my right wrist (face down) but it just didn't feel right!

Admittedly, I only wear a cheap Timex so I'm not overly concerned about wearing it on my dominant hand. However, I do find having my watch on my left wrist is easier/better when I'm driving...in UK so it's right hand drive, change gear with my left

When I wear a watch I wear it on the right, face up. I'm right handed. It's definitely "wrong", but it is how I have always done it. Just like I have always peeled bananas upside down. No real rhyme or reason.

    Right wrist, right handed.

Never heard of (intentionally) wearing a watch face down.
