Soaps and Creams

I see a lot of "what is a good brush for soaps", or "what is a good brush for creams". I also see that stiffer brushes are better with soaps and softer ones with creams.

I understand that everyone's experiences may, in fact, vary, but I have an extremely soft Merkur Silvertip that, in a few seconds of swirling, routinely pulls more soap from a hard puck than I ever need. I'm not even sure how using that on a cream would be any better, since once you have the product on the brush, lathering shouldn't be affected by where the product came from in the first place.

Is my experience varying wildly out of control, or is this whole soap/cream thing a myth?

I think there is something to it for brushes with very high lofts compared to brushes with low lofts.

I cannot see having a need for specific brushes for creams and soaps though. I find all my low loft brushes are perfect for any sort of soap or cream...but as a face latherer that seems normal.

Bowl lathers seem to like those flop monsters so they probably do find brushes more suited to creams and soaps.

I am a bowl latherer, though, and I don't understand it. The few brushes I've tried all seemed equally appropriate for soaps and creams.

I agree I think the distinction is made to justify further shaving brush aquisitions! And why not?
