Default Anyone uses the Simpson '55' ?

And do you like it. I read different dimensions on the internet.
What would be the diameter and length of the knot/loft?
Is it dense(r than the Case f.i.)?

I use the 57, which is larger than the 55, and it has a 22 mm knot, so I'm guessing that you're in the 18-20 mm range. The 57 is very dense, and I expect the 55 to be similarly packed.

The more I see this brush, the more I'm considering picking one up soon. I only have one brush, a Rooney 3/1 in super; how would my Rooney compare to a 55 or any other brush in the 50's series. Thanks.

The fifty something brush has a denser knot than the Rooney, and I personally prefer the Best hair in the Simpson compared to the Super hair in the Rooney. If you are a soap user, you will be very pleased with the Simpson.

I have the 56 which I have been using for about one week now and I am enjoying it immensely.

A 21mm knot with a 47mm loft. Densely packed with Best grade hair this may quickly became a fave. This Simfix Best grade hair is every bit as good as the original Somerset Best (maybe a tad softer but almost negligible.)

I don't think I would personally go any smaller than the 56. The 57 may be the sweet spot for me (which the custom Eagle G3 should mirror).

The 55 would be reminiscent of the "Il Bambino" from Savile Row which is the SR 3118 from QED which I found to be too small for me.
    Cheers,

So would the fact that these 50's brushes are denser than my Rooney also make them lather hogs, or do they have better flow-through because of the different grade of badger hair?

I think we would need a clarification before concluding that the 55 is denser than the Rooney supers.

Personally, I found the 57 denser than the 2/1. That said, I do not consider it to be a lather hog.

Beginish, thank you for that input. The 50 series is very tempting indeed.
